has it been pinned down when these were recorded? all came out right at the same time in 2004 but they sound like they're possibly earlier. especially the first 2.


Magnificent sounds like it could be from the 2000-era NPGMC/High/Peace stuff. but possibly updated? but that doesn't mean anything.

The Dance has shades of Emancipation. or possibly intended for Madrid 2 Chicago?


Purple House... could be from any time, really. When was the last time he was playing it a lot prior to it being released?



oh! also, Jukebox With A Heartbeat? anyone? sound like NPS or High-era to me.

is that the same "Purple House" that's a redo of "Red House" from Jimi? If so, didn't he play that on the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD? Hmmm, maybe not, but I'm pretty sure he's played it live before.

Yes he played it in Melbourne at the Palais Aftershow in 1992. A studio version is included on a Jimi Hendrix Tribute album called "The Power of Soul". Unfortunately it's one of the weaker covers in the cd, (in my opinion) due to the cheesy synth horns and a thin, overly-processed guitar sound.

and i really doubt that Prince went into the studio in late 2003 to re-work anything from Chocolate Invasion and the Slaughterhouse. I would assume that they just used alternate mixes that were laying around. which makes the placing of The Dance suspect.

No insiders are giving up details openly anymore. We saw what happened when that engineer recently tweeted that he was laying down tracks with Prince for what may be the new album. The thread is gone and the engineer is most likely gone.

to the presses. imo it's certainly good enough to replace lame tracks on
that album such as "life of the party".

"the dance" does indeed sound very 1995/1996-ish. it's absolutely from
the same mold as "goodbye" and "journey 2 the center of ur heart" and a
lot of the slow songs on disc 2 of Emancipation.

"purple house" is most likely from before Rave. didn't he talk about an
all hendrix tune cover album at that time. even saying he donated a track
to the hendrix estate, including the mastertape, for them to do with as
they pleased? but iirc that was rumored to be a cover of "machinegun".
but it could perhaps have been "purple house"? since machinegun turned up
on the npgmc.

"jukebox with a heartbeat" sounds exactly like stuff from the 2000 npgmc.
things like "props n pounds" could have shared A/Bsides on a single with
this song.

Yeah, but John Mayer does Jimi. Sheryl Crow has recorded Jimi. Paul McCartney and, obviously Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton have recorded his songs. There’s been Robert Randolph (and the Family Band). There was a tribute album (“Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix” in 1993). Prince wanted to do a full album on Jimi.

Red House blues can't be recorded before 2004 or 20003.
