Bedtime Story
Sheila E lyrics

Time 2 sleep
But I'm not sleepy yet
Close my eyes
But dreamland's not a sure bet
Don't go

CHORUS:
Stay with me
Tell me a bedtime story

Long ago there was a princess
She was so fine
She was all alone
4 her Prince, he never had no time
U can hear her crying

CHORUS

Don't go
Stay with me
Please talk 2 me

Far away I want 2 go
And start my life all over
Instead, I'll stay
Maybe I'll find a 4-leaf clover

Stay with me
Tell me a bedtime story, yeah

CHORUS

Goodnight

zzz

On a serious note, I think if Sheila E ever tells her story we may find the reason she did or didn't allow herself to be treated by Prince, the way he treated many young women, is due to what she experienced as a child. Sheila has embraced her religion and from what she's said in recent years, I think Sheila has healed the molested little girl inside of her so now she won't ever allow any man to abuse her, emotionally, mentally, or physically. Sheila E has obviously always been a special woman in Prince's life. Like all the other ones.

Well the simple facts remain though: Prince and Sheila were in a relationship in the mid-late 80's, and Cat was fucking him too. They battled for his attentions. Throw in Jill Jones to that circa 1987, and there's a lot of girls vying for the warm light that was Prince's attention.

Isn't it sick. I can't see why any woman or man (prince) would allow ones self to be in that type of situation. It all comes from abuse and thinking one has to act a certain way in order to get where one wants to go. Meaning one could want love and think that is the only way or one could want a kick butt job and fame or one could just want to feed the Ego. It makes my heart hurt for all parties. It isn't cool to be the man having so many weak women fighting for u. Nor is it cool to be one of the women allowing the abuse and disrespect for whatever reason (as listed above). I don't really feel that bad for the ladies because they were playing games as well and that is why they took that kinda disrespect and I don't feel bad for Prince because he allowed them to trick themselves out to him for his entertainment. I just have to say it's wrong on so many levels and the fact that some think it's cool or want to be act that way is just a mess. I can see why none of the relationships worked because they all were playing games and not being real with who they really were on the inside. In the end we all want love real love and the only true source of that is God. I hope Prince has learned and that he doesn't allow himself to be in things like this anymore. I hope the ladies have also. Just my 2 cents. MayRain

You're joking right?

Reread the lyrics. She's not singing TO a girl, she's singing to a guy, saying that there are rumors about the two of them, and they both know it. So she's leaving whatever happens up to fate and destiny. "Sister Fate" is a colloquialism like Lady Luck or something.

I'm assuming he means this part:

If they knew the real truth
They'd probably die
I could never do nothing
To live up to those lies

I think Sheena Easton was smart to not get romantically involved with Prince. He's such a head trip. I really think Prince had the hots for her at one point.

Sheena was on the Arsenio Hall show back in the day along with Eddie Murphy. She was promoting her Lover In Me album if my memory hasn't failed. Anyway...Arsenio made a comment to Eddie supposedly about Sheena in which he said (paraphrasing):

"You don't want no woman after Prince has had her."

Sheena's says something like "I'm not going to ask what that means."

Right around that time there was also an Entertainment Tonight (or similar show) report that Sheena broke up with Prince because he wanted her to only communicate with him telepathically. I enjoyed that story. biggrin

I have no doubt they had a sexual relationship. But I also believe they are stronger now as friends. She's still 100x hotter than horseface Bria could ever be.

I think we all understand the song. The song is about the rumors of her dating Prince, as well as how she's going to leave it up to fate and one day they're going to be together. But the lines quoted could easily be taken by some to imply she's a lesbian. They directly contradict everything else in the song.

In Movie Star and Anna Stesia

Prince made very strong lines that could mean he is bisexual. Prince has played around with homosexual hints for a long time, it doesn't mean he is.

I doubt Sister Fate is about a lesbian relationship. That line is saying despite the rumours, nothing is happening

Movies Star: Grab somebody 4 a quick dance
Boy or girl - it don't matter no more, I'm hot!

Anne Stesia: Have U ever wanted 2 play with someone so much
U'd take any one boy or girl?
(Because it's Prince, it's automatically sexual, but it just a poetic way of saying he is lonely)

right, another one. I guess putting boys & girls in the video was supposed to take away any hint of sexuality.

I think the lyric was just because it was handy. Sometimes a lyric is there simply because it fits. It's like MJ using "doggone" in "The Girl is Mine". Paul McCartney sort of questioned its use, but MJ told him it was just about the song as a hole, not that one lyric. It was just part of the experience in general.

I think the same rule applies for songs like "Diamonds and Pearls" and "Anna Stesia". It just works better. It's simplistic. "Anna" sure isn't about bisexuality. The lyric is a huge reflection of the increasing loneliness and isolation Prince was experiencing at the time. He was desperate for any friend, really.

"Have U ever been so lonely
That U felt like U were the only one in this world?
Have U ever wanted 2 play with someone so much
U'd take any one boy or girl?"

"play with" doesn't necessarily indicate anything of a sexual nature. Remember, fucking was as much as play time as writing music was for him. Anything could fill that void of his lonely. As far as the D&P video, it also seemed obvious to have children in it because of the lyrics.

"Movie Star" was about being cocky, and being a cock tease for the sake of his own ego. He was riding a high after Purple Rain, and that's exactly where "Movie Star" came from.

Sure, I'm aware of how Prince has toyed with people's perceptions. I don't know how to make this any clearer: I KNOW that Sister Fate is not about a lesbian relationship. I know what the song is about. Wasitgoodforu raised the question that he thought Sister Fate implied Sheila was gay. Ernest did not see how, so I showed how the lyrics I quoted COULD be construed by some to imply lesbianism. The lines quoted don't just say nothing is happening; they state that she "could never do nothing to live up to those lies." Double negative aside, it's a pretty bold assertion, so it's a reasonable interpretation.

To answer the thread question...
didn't Sheila herself said in an interview that she didn't wanna/couldn't leave Prince cause the sex was so good?
...that they were engaged?
...and that he was involved with other women?

I don't believe so. Prince will always be Prince and he will always "allow women to play themselves" for his attention.
Also, going back to "acting a certain way to obtain certain things" That's human nature. Unless, you are at a place in life where you are truly happy, then chance are you're playing games too. That's a general "you" not you, in general. Whitney Houston pretended to be a "pop princess," Mariah Carey pretended to be "white," Pink pretended to be "black,"and rappers/musicians/actors/politicians/athletes pretend to be heterosexual all to obtain certain things. It shouldn't be soo hard to see what goes on and why some people tolerant abuse for "love's" sake.

I think she's abandoned her music career (not that i'm complaining, she couldn't sing IMO anyway) and has gone full fledged into her acting career (which is average at best).

The last film I saw her in was a straight-to-DVD movie called "Blood and Bone," starring martial artist Michael Jai White, which was released last year. She had a pretty good role.
