The Very First Prince Song That Hooked You? Not necessarily the first Prince song you heard, but the one that grabbed you and wouldn't let you go.
For me, it was "Let's Pretend We're Married." The last little section, "I want to fuck the taste out of your mouth," was the epiphany. Y'all?

Me too. This was my favourite for years and then of course I overplayed it and it lost its magic a bit. And then he went and played it at Montreux and that version just made me fall in love with it all over again ...

I had heard several tracks from the 1979 "Prince" album and loved them. I also loved "Uptown", but it was "Head" that hooked me. Andy is a four letter word.

Little Red Corvette
the 1st prince song i was ever obsessed with. And I think When Doves Cry had me to. I used to wait up all night and listen to the old school radio station hoping they would play one of those songs even though i had a computer upstairs lol, and this was only a few yrs ago(im only 14 ). Its the spontaneity(sp?) of it, awww, those were the days April usually brings showers
This time it was a hurtin' kind This woman said she wanted my baby I told her I'd have 2 be deaf, dumb, and blind

the 1st Prince song that I can remember though, was 'Delirious,'
and I was about 12 years old when it came out. I did not even know the meaning of the word 'delirious,' but the way Prince sang sounded funny to me, and I also found the keyboards to be ticklish...

Purple Rain and most notably- it's guitar solo. "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

When Doves Cry.
I had never heard anything like it. Captivating. Mesmerizinge. His voice... the music... the beats. Hooked at 13, never to be the same! The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Controversy was the first song I heard, and it got me hooked... about a month before he was to play at the superbowl, my dad told me that "that weirdo" prince was playing... and I thought I ought to hear some of his stuff. Course the only thing I could find was a Hits 2 Cd and that was the first track. the rest is history. "For what it's worth, you're somewhere here on Earth..."

My mom had the Controversy ablum (yes ablum), and would wear that shit out. That and "Call Me" by Skyy. But the joint that got me hooked was Computer Blue.
I thought I was the shit with my bathrobe and broom!

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I also must say that the first time I heard the Purple Rain album I think I was in a state of shock. And the Ballad of DP almost made me cry from joy the first time I heard it.

I thought that "Why You Wanna Treat Me so Bad?" was a bad a** jam, but the next year "Party Up" hooked me for life.

Not exactly sure which specific song - more like a few...
I Wanna Be Your Lover, Do Me Baby, Little Red Corvette, Controversy (loved the 'do you get high? does your daddy cry?),Uptown. Uptown might have been the one. The entire song, the lyrics, the WAY he sang them, the oohhs and owws, the falsetto, the passion, the entire thing. So I'll just go on ahead and say I just realized my answer is Uptown. Probably. lol Good thread, and you guys should make sure to share some of your thoughts on this topic for the 7SP book too! And our FB has a whole 'discussions' tab for all of the albums... http://www.7silhouetteproject.com/http://www.facebook.com/p...5208764394 PRINCE BOOK project. HTTP://WWW.7SILHOUETTEPROJECT.COM/
