falloff I'm glad someone here agrees with me. Man, I remember going like "Really? Is that the best they could do?" As I said before, that house reminds me of those crazy looking houses in the poor parts the ATL. giggle BTW, what interview was it?

And then, when he comes home to find "Ma" sittin' on the curb, there are all kinds of really cool Arts and Crafts bungalows across the street.

Y'know, there are hoods in Minneapolis. In '88 I lived in a pretty scary section of town overrun by crack dealers kind of around 3rd and Lake. There were some hairy parts of South Minneapolis. Of course I never saw blown out neighborhoods in Mpls like I've seen in parts of Oakland, but there was similiar drug and gang violence trouble.

You mean a play on stage or a simple pun? A projection play (as in psychoanalysis, not a slide-show)?

Enough Andy already! Lol.

North Minny is much scarier now than it was then, but back then it was working class mostly african american-alot of the same street ethics from rougher hoods ran through North Minny. People had lawns and houses due to white flight like most so called nice hoods. Now it's crazy, i moved here in 90 and back then at least you could go over there to play ball or holla at a hoodrat but i wouldnt drive through now-maybe i'm getting old. The Chicago Gangs and the Tre Tre Crips (dont quote me on the name i dont know what these damn chillun talking about) are holding shit down and it is much more sketchy in 10" as opposed to 90". I heard in 70" it was still chill, activism, park jams (where kids like prince honed their chops) and folks had jobs, folks werent rich but they werent under the constant threat of danger. These kids nowadays are bangin at funerals, for kids that got hit by a stray bullet!!, bringing beef to that venue is some ignant shit.

It's like that all over Black America. From the larger cities down to small towns like where I am now.

Funny how before Crack Cocaine Black neighborhoods were just like White neighborhoods. Now it's the "hood".
Black America is in a state of civil war and no one knows why.
Well if you want to know the answer Google ...Prevent the rise of the messiah.

I googled that and it went to something about COINTELPRO against Malcolm X and trying to prevent Black Nationalist violence.

So, crack and drug related violence and the hood are connected to COINTELPRO? COINTELPRO was trying to prevent violence, not insitigate it. Not that I'm a defender of COINTELPRO, but really.

Look at the goals of COINTELPRO.

#2 Was to prevent the rise of a Black messiah.
Other goals was to create distrust among groups that could start a revolution.

The FBI and American government was not interested in preventing violence but creating and fostering a climate of disunity among Black organizations.

At the same time MLK,Malcolm X, Black Panthers, and other Black empowerment groups were being destroyed people like Nicky Barnes and Frank Lucas were allowed to pump drugs into the inner cities of America. Later when Blacks were starting to make economic gains in America Crack cocaine appears.Black neighborhoods all over America become battlegrounds for gangs to control their drug areas.

The story that the CIA brought crack into inner cites and such is based on ONE book by a journalist who was fired from The San Jose Mercury. The amount of inner governmental complicity that would have to happen for that to be true makes it really unlikely to be anything other than fiction.

Also, when they say "black Messiah' in that report, you should note that they say the word 'Messiah' in quotes. You should also note that COINTELPRO wasn't merely focused on Black radicals, but the entire anti-vietnam New Left, the emerging Gay Liberation movement and really anyone at that time who they thought was a challenge to state power.

Regardless of what COINTELPRO or the CIA did or didn't do, I still think we can hold gangs responsible for gang wars.

The story about the Crack cocaine and the CIA is well documented in the Iran Contra scandal. The man who was Ricky Ross' pipeline to the cocaine was a Contra operative and worked the western USA without any law enforcement intervention for years.NBC News had a feature story with John Kerry saying on the news that the operation was a CIA operationa and the files were handed to the DOJ where they refused to investigate further.

In the COINTELPRO operations you are correct when you state that the FBI was involved in similar operations against various organizations however the term "messiah" was used only once and that was in regards to what they referred to as Black Nationalist Hate Groups. When have you ever heard of Martin Luther King Jr using violence or hate against anyone? He was mentioned in the list along with Stokley Charmichael and Elijah Muhammad.

Now you mention gangs as being responsible for their actions.I agree. However back in the 70's and 80's you only heard about gangs in places like NYC,Chicago, and LA not Little Rock,Birmingham,Nashville. Now how would the government ,right or wrong, launch these intensive operations against groups like SCLC and not investigate how ...
1. Gangs were getting Chinese and Russian made weapons.

2. Drugs from Central American drug lords.
3. Equipment that were used in intellegence operations.

The gent that I quoted in my original post here was correct in saying how crazy these formally peaceful neighborhoods are now. I see the same thing in a small city 700 miles away in Tennessee. I can go anywhere in Black America and I see the same thing and I get the same response.

This may mean nothing to you but to me having lived through the transformation I say something unnatural occured.

I swear this is the only place I know that can go from Prince in the hood to Cointelpro in one fell swoop! lol We could move this thread to P&R right now and not miss a beat. In this case going off topic was done with real finesse. cool

On topic I think the hood of those days and the hood now is different in many ways.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
