Have u ever created a Personal Compilation?

Thought this would be a good idea for a thread after viewing the fan made dvd called the Gold Files. I have to say I'm very impressed. I have only made one and that was a few years ago. I titled in "The Dawning of 3121". In my opinion it wasnt that great but I did put a few things that werent on dvd on there. the unreleased promo vids for Pussy control and i like it there. Also, was a musicology tour advertisement. I remember using NERO and putting the song Fury on the menu and a background pic of Prince in a blue suit from Musicology era.

yes I remember that dvd. I still have it in my collection from one of our trades. The snippet of the Pussy Control video alone makes it worthwhile.

Yes.
I pulled out all the slow songs, because it's a buzzkill when you're jamming and a slow song shuffles thru. I have another one I called "Instrumentals".
I also created a playlist called "Prince and..." of duets.

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

can't even count how many. or how many 100 disc spindles of CDR's i've burned through in the last 10 years. my last real one was an 8-disc singles/best-of using single edits. that existed. or that i made. that one damn near killed me.

i don't do it any more. at a certain point, i'm so wrapped up in it i lose sight of what the original intention was. they become too bloated. or i work on them so long and hard that my brain just shuts off and i don't care to even listen to it by the time i've perfected it. i guess it's the process of doing it than enjoying the end result that appeals to me.

the advent of the iPod pretty much put a halt to all of it for me and completely took me away from focusing on music in that way. i don't even really bother with making playlists now with it. i run into the same problems i did with discs. except after only 10 minutes rather than after 2 weeks.

i definitely enjoy music for its own sake a lot more now, instead of wrapping my brain around "how can i make this better?" lol

Totally agree, i'm exactly the same - i used to make 90 min cassette tapes to listen to on the commute (remember walkmans anyone??? then mini-disks!), my favourite was called 'Short Stuff' apart from the humorous reference to Prince's height it was a comp of all the shortest length songs I had a that time - basically to get the most songs on one tape. but like errant the ipod has just opened up a whole different era.

Mine is a work in progress. It's about 32 CD's and is in three parts. Part 1 singles. part 2 b-sides and rarities. Part 3 alternate mixes.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
