DJ Foefur Remasters - your thoughts?

i'm just about to download dirty mind. i'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these. sometimes remixing/mastering is akin to tampering...
Got my mojo working...it just don't work on you!

I dig them, but I think the Lovesexy remaster is too loud. You'll see what I mean next time it comes up on shuffle. neutral

I kind of wish he had remastered the album version of America on ATWIAD and then included the long one as a bonus track, but other than that I really like Foefur's remasters. Even on my shitty computer speakers, they sound much clearer than the Warner CDs. When it comes to the 80's albums, it's either this or vinyl.

There' good.

But I don't like the inclusion of alternate extended versions or additional tracks scattered into the album.

I'd rather have the album the way it was originally released, and with the 'included' tracks at the end as bonus tracks.

SOTT for example, doesn't have the original housequake, but the extended--which I like better, but still--I'd like to have something closer to the original but with the improved sound quality.

The sound quality is remarkably improved.

They're wonderful. Purple Rain is my favorite. The megamixes are terrific as well.

I'm not a fan. I downloaded the Purple Rain one and it was just brick-walled to shit. So much so, that the toms on When Doves Cry would wobble and pulse. I thought it was a real problem.

You are absoulutely right about the toms on when doves cry, may have gone a bit far there, it isn't a hitherto unheard tambourine in the backgorund is it? I mean it is wobble isn't it? but the sets aren't without merit. Can anyone tell me what he did with Dream Factory? Did he use any alternate versions. I'm downloading batman now. don't know what on it...

My thoughts exactly! I'd still rather have the album versions of America,Mountains,Anotherloverholenyohead,Kiss,Housequake, Thunder,& Gett Off. Other than that, the remastering is fine imo.

I had a few in lossless, i recycle binned them, Too damn loud, so much distortion, Lovesexy being the worst. All he did was up the gain horribly, and possibly used a bit of punch and sparkle in cooledit or something. Nothing remarkable at all.

I ended up doing my own eventually, perfectly serviceable.

Exactly. They are way overrated.
Just like you say, rip the original cd, boost all levels and add some treble, that's all that was done to them.
And again: how can you "remaster" without having the masters???

But his mixes are a different story, they are really cool.

Lovesexy has the same type of thing man. Come one you still trying to impress people. Just be yourself.

No one cares dude....no one cares.

vitriol

I stopped collecting them as soon as I learnt many/most/all of them come from mp3.

I see no point in 'remastering' (thought that is NOT the word) and then degrade the work in format.

the megamix and the revision of it are great (although I got used to the original megamix, and missed some it's flow whenit was altered in the revision)

Combining SuperfunkyCali with Nasty Girl is good fun!
