no true era Even most of the look is a combination of PR & Parade - Parade moreso Sheila E's album is similar, it's a part of the Parade era but released in the ATWIAD time frame. but in the Raspberry Beret video you see a wide range of dress styles that are from the PR era and the Parade: 4 the Tears in Your Eyes is not connected with any Prince album, but the music is very much Purple Rain feel Eh? ATWIAD was never an "intermediate album". It was a major major step for Prince. Life after PR. It was a full blown "era", but without a tour, people seem to forget. It was more successful than Parade, and Prince was and has always considered it one of his master-strokes, where he considers Parade rushed and weak. The fashion would of course have similarities to PR & Parade, it was the progression between them. Personally, I think that ATWIAD sound wise is much more aligned to Parade. After PR, Prince shut a door and moved on ATWIAD, The Family, Romance 1600, Parade, Mazarati etc and showed a clear, Wendy and Lisa influenced trend, with ATWIAD the daddy of the sound, not PR, whcih was still for the most a solo album, despite the titles on the cover. ^^^ the bold statement says it. I'll say a progression album, but I would call it an 'era' because you really can discern between ATWIAD and Parade. What I mean by intermediate, is that there wasn't a big production of videos and shows and concerts, PR tour was done and we got the ATWIAD album. I don't forget it. Which by the way is still my top 3 favs. And yes I prefere it over Parade. It was a very technical album and it shows Prince stretching in a new way, incorporating others input etc etc I love the whole project. I don't think it was a era like 1999 Controversy SOTT. I think Batman is also an intermediate album, not really an 'era' as well as the Rainbow Children. Purple Rain was recorded was Prince & the Revolution, most of that was live renditions. Lisa Coleman over all I would say contributed the most. But Dr Fink & Wendy did too. I just the fact of the long all night jam sessions with the band sounds vibes and directions came out of those from each musician that Prince pulled to add to the individual song. with the 1979-1988 bands it's always been that way

some of the best music Prince has ever made: Raspberry Beret (New mix), Paisley Park (Extended), Pop Life (9 minutes Extended), America (21 minutes Extended), She's Always In My Hair, Hello, Girl >>> just wow I totally agree, no other album b4 or after can match the B sides he put out 4 this one. But the videos 4 the Parade album R 5 *****'s the quality is just superior to any of his videos Hello extended Girl extended are 2 of my favorites they take on a large vibe that is so sexy

A few years ago I met Pat Smear and I asked him about being in the video. He said that it was fun but strange. According to Pat no one was allowed to talk to P and the only time people could look at him was during the shooting of the video. He also said the video shoot was very long.
But he said he respected him. Pat was a cool and funny guy to talk to.

Can we then infer that 3121 must be his favourite perfume? seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

Purple Rain sounds like a natural progression of 1999. The real change (for me anyway) was ATWIAD, where he finally opened up to the band in time as well as title. You can feel the difference of Wendy and Lisa over the whole 84-86 recording period. Princes music sounded like it had colour. ( I know, probably a bad description! ) What I find interesting is that Prince was cooking ATWIAD in 84, right in the middle of the public PR period. So he was performing one style, and he knew what was round the corner. Good job on find era pics by the way. Thats not easy for 1985! .

Thats not easy for 1985! lol yeah ATWIAD definitly feels like the painting for the album and for some reason 1999 feels or looks like the pic of Prince lying naked in the bed with the water colors in the dark room with neon lights. Also the band pic feels like the music. That's interesting 2. 2 very different styles. I still always say 'musically' as vastly different as it is from PR, the ATWIAD music still has a touch of Purple Rain vibes, the era look is more close with Parade-the suites are PR, but the music isn't. Definately an interesting period. I think even people who don't like the album or it isn't a top 5 or 10, should really get informed about that time because it says a lot about Prince and what was happening. 1999-Dream Factory was a very active open time in Prince history

I'm listening 2 a Chicago Public Radio: Sound Opinions and Wendy & Lisa are interviewed. Really indepth and Purple Rain is largely a band album. They said Darlin Nikki is totally Prince and I believe When Doves Cry. They said the rest was a lot of the band Computer Blue the guitar is Wendy that opening guitar riff is Wendy (of course that song is credited w/W L dr Fink & John Nelson) Lisa said they were always set up in/ seriously camped out in a warehouse with 24 track machines working out the songs writing the songs...
