Yes, but what is to post? As far as 1985, that really covers the PR tour, which we've seen on video, and the "Raspberry Beret" video. Quite a change in a few months, but that WAS 1985 for Prince.

As soon as Prince released the album, just weeks after the PR tour ended, he was already aiming for UTCM/Parade. There were only two real videos for the album, "Raspberry Beret", and "America". And even "America" was filmed while he was in France filming UTCM. It was weird that Prince said (at the time) that ATWIAD was his favorite album, yet he did little to promote it as far as videos or appearances, in comparison to anything he'd done before for any particular project.

Although I do love the album, it was more of a "stand by" album between movie projects, to me. I consider the Parade era part of the ATWIAD era as well. The look, the clothes, the music, all very relative to each other for those two years.

It will be interesting to see what pops up.

With the exception of Raspberry Beret i tend to forget this album as good as it is because its in the middle of two big ones ( i think they are

Yeah, ATWIAD went 2x platinum in the US, and Gold in the UK. Parade went platinum in US and UK. It's actually kind of the norm for Prince albums to that point. He never sold HUGE amounts of records. Purple Rain was the proverbial sore thumb in Prince history. His regular sales were 3 or 4 million, maybe 5. But that's changed over the years, either more or less in sales.

Yeah, I just recently realized that ATWIAD was recorded almost entirely during the Purple Rain tour. Prince and the Rev were busy little bees. I think, you get Jill Jones songs from the era and Romance 1600 songs from there, too. And then after the tour you get the whole Parade, SoTT, Dream Factory and Crystal Ball period... all in that one year! They were on fire!

Well there was the Rolling Stone cover and interview. The cover was a shot from the Raspberry Beret video and if I remember correctly it was conducted while he was overseeing rehearsals with The Family.

2 add 2 what Ernest said, ATWIAD was a intermediate album

no true era

Even most of the look is a combination of PR & Parade - Parade moreso

Sheila E's album is similar, it's a part of the Parade era but released in the ATWIAD time frame.

there is a picture of Prince & the sott band and Mico is wearing similar pants to Prince's blue/cloud pants

but in the Raspberry Beret video you see a wide range of dress styles that are from the PR era and the Parade: 3rd pic the guy sitting with the white pants and the white 'cape/shawl' that a very common style from the PR era BrownMark & Prince wore it a lot. But BM also wore that in the Parade era
In one of the pictures one of the guys looks like he is wearing Prince's Kiss look

I connect this look(Prince) w ATWIAD yet what Wendy is wearing underneath the trench is very Parade(2nd pic) the 3rd pic looks like very intermediate styles
the suite Wendy is wearing with the pants shortened and the buttons, the tuxedo look she and Eddie M are rocking ... very Paradish, yet Eddies style looks like Controversy

only 2 'performances' we connnect with ATWIAD:Raspberry Beret video and the mini concert in France(America video) that featured some ATWIAD songs
the stage is a mix n match of PR & Parade

4 the Tears in Your Eyes is not connected with any Prince album, but the music is very much Purple Rain feel, yet of course the video they are already transitioned. Lisa is wearing (If I remember correctly) a similar suit coat like Prince's during the PRmovie perf of the Beautiful One.

The album version was released in 1985 on the USA For Africa album, and the video premiered during Live Aid later that year.

The video version of the song (with just Prince, Wendy, & Lisa) ended up on The Hits/The B-Sides in 1993. So I just meant that it IS associated with only one Prince album, and that was The Hits/The B-Sides. However, the album version is still only associated, and released on, the USA For Africa album.

The video version and the Hits/B-Sides version are the same, but USA For Africa version is a whole band performance.

Yes with drums, bass, heavier keys. I prefer that version, compared to the acoustic one. I'm sure you can track it down somewhere.

It's Prince and the Revolution on the USA For Africa Album.

The video/Hits version is a "live" recording of Prince, Wendy & Lisa - what you see is what you hear for the video; the HITS version is lifted from that video.

Look around for the USA For Africa album, and the band version is on there.

IMO no. it had musical potential to be good. but vocally prince sounds at his worse, like he's not even trying. and Wendy and Lisa vocals are quite rough as well. it was patchy at best.

The acoustic sounded more sincere and beautiful

Eh?

ATWIAD was never an "intermediate album". It was a major major step for Prince. Life after PR. It was a full blown "era", but without a tour, people seem to forget.

It was more successful than Parade, and Prince was and has always considered it one of his master-strokes, where he considers Parade rushed and weak.

The fashion would of course have similarities to PR & Parade, it was the progression between them.

Personally, I think that ATWIAD sound wise is much more aligned to Parade. After PR, Prince shut a door and moved on ATWIAD, The Family, Romance 1600, Parade, Mazarati etc and showed a clear, Wendy and Lisa influenced trend, with ATWIAD the daddy of the sound, not PR, whcih was still for the most a solo album, despite the titles on the cover.

Pop Life - "Fresh Dance Mix" 6:16 (Sheila E Mix - I think)
Pop Life - "Extended Mix" 9:06

There were also long versions for "Hello", "Girl", and "She's Always In My Hair".

The blonde girl is Jackie Swanson who went on to become part of the cast of Cheers. She played Kelly, Woody's girlfriend. She also comes on the org once in a while and asks about the song Palomino Pleasure Ride that Prince supposedly wrote for her. A note from Prince does allude to the song.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
