I don't get too mad, in fact, I haven't heard it for awhile. But back in the day when I heard that I just got my brother to take care of it (he was a Prince fan too-and a wonderful "converter") and that was the end of that.

This is also (not entirely) about being underground again.

When Prince was breaking through to the mainstream (even before Purple Rain to a good extent), he got through to more straight males who were open-minded about music being performed by a flamboyant, androgynous short guy. He played rock guitar and stroked it like a wildman exercising his id, a la Jimi; he always had some women other males salivate over, he sang about what he wanted to do with and to women, what they could do to him... what most men only think in their minds or say privately, etc. And he was mainstream.

Prior to the 1999 album and subsequently with Purple Rain, there was less of that type of mentality with straight males. He was that faggot with the high voice to most of them, it seems. Somehow when a flamboyant artist is on the charts, on video channels, and on the radio, people concede to liking some of his music, they forget about all the superficial junk, because he's being accepted more and more...

Until he's back underground for years and people forget about him.

The males secure in their own manhood always respected Prince's talent, even if it took a few years for him to put it together musically.
