Analysis: THIS is (maybe) the reason why Prince is treating his fanbase badly !?

Have you ever wondered why Prince sometimes is treating his own fanbase badly.. ? Threats, lawsuits, denying re-mastered albums, tour dvd's etc..

And have you ever wished you had the power to look inside his mind, reading his thoughts... to get some answers to all this ?

well I have wondered about it, (don't laugh) and maybe this is the reason why Prince treats his own fanbase badly:

the famous danish film director Lars Von Trier said on TV something about what is inspiring for an artist, and what is least inspiring.

according Von Trier: PRAISE is what is least inspiring, it is very reducing (restricting?) for an artist's creativity if an artsist always gets praise all the time ...

- on the other hand it is very inspiring when an artist gets resistance.

So there you have it: according this little "analysis" Prince doesn't like praise too much because it works restricting on him as a creative artist, he likes resistance from the invironment surround him.

Maybe that is why he is treating the fanbase badly sometimes, he likes to create a little turmoil once in a while, he likes to "play" with us, he likes the resistance from the fans, cuz this is more inspiring for him than all the positivity and praise.

Do you believe me..... or does this sound like I am nuts to you...? biggrin

i think i'm 1st

but within that analysis, it could be true.

he has released endless sugary vibes;

he's covered all the basis

now is the time for resonance and resistance

but he's fortunate he's got his own outlets,

coz others would not be able to take this path

easily

just look at the reaction of fans to some of his

recent themes

are you sure you want to look inside prince's mind? lol

he issued take-down notices when his fanbase verbally slaughtered him for the Planet Earth album

he doesnt like it when fansites do whatever they like with his art/image

he doesnt appreciate his authority as a musician being mocked

he enjoys praise but only when it's genuine, the in-genuine he invites to his home cuz it's safer to fake the faker than for him to be genuine with the genuine

he wants your respect for him as a musician and truly does not care two silicone tits what you think about him as a person

he will snap you wide awake via scare tactics and bullying if you step out of line all over his heart and/or ego

he will call on any of his multiple personalities to back up what the other personality is doing whether it is right or wrong

he keeps a picture of your face on his ceiling and frequently masturbates over magazines cuz there's lonely and then there's how he's feeling right now

he often wonders if he's Batman's and The Joker's love-child because that is the closest he can come to explaining his jekyl and hyde personality

he wants to be loved, he wants his music to be loved, and he wants to be respected no matter what he does nor to whom

he's your savior and you're the reason why he would die for you

Well if resistance is what he wants then he's damn sure getting it because those last two releases of his were useless. So hope that does inspire him!

I really don't think that Prince thinks about it. I think he's so self-empowered by his own early wealth and success, that he might have fallen off the planet somewhere, and now just runs along with any instinct and feeling, never bothering to think of the consequences. I think Prince is an entirely irrational artist, with enough money to allow himself to be that way.

I'd hate to think that Prince has a "system" to his actions. Or even a "logic" behind them.. cos' whatever those would be, they'd be stupid ones.

If he wanted restrictions, I think he'd try to get it within the realms of his artistry - and hire people with the abilities to play ball with him (producers, musicians ect.), or he'd restrict himself artistically on a personal level (deciding to only ..erh.. play bass and no other instrument).

I think he's treating his fans badly because he has no restrictions, and everybody around him just says "Yes Mister Prince, that I-S a very good idea indeed" or gets fired. Thus: Fans are treated to tantrums from a 7 year old guy with the money to make it a legal issue for adults.

I don't think Prince treats the fanbase vindictively, your post makes it sound like you think he does it intentionally, "denying" us remasters etc.

Taking videos down from YouTube, we say "What's the big deal, it's free promo, other artists don't have a stick up their ass about it" - Which is true, but we still recognise it's unauthorized use of copyright material.

I think he wants what he sees is rightfully his and to be paid for it, and wants it all on his terms. It's his goals or methods that may be unrealistic, or idealistic. Step back and chill, think about the bigger picture rather than going after small fry or biting the hand that feeds you - some of these things aren't actually that important, and will iron themselves out as these technologies mature.

Remasters aren't happening because Prince has wanted control masters, so unless he gets control of them (and decides he wants to re-release them remastered), or reaches an agreement where remasters can happen and he is happy about it (i.e. $$$$$), then they're not happening - He isn't denying us intentionally. And as much as I want remasters and bonus tracks and everything else - I want it done right and I don't trust Prince to do that - technically and logistically, I'm not talking about censoring. So unless he got some industry muscle behind him and did it right, I'd rather he continue to leave them be.

I agree that constructive criticism is important, but I don't think the fanbase is the place for that - fans should be separate from the artist, otherwise it's a small room and the air starts to get a little stale (See Prince's string of official websites and their content over the years - nonsensical diatribes, religious twaddle, creepy idol worship, poor business practice) - it should come from strong support with those who work with the artist, because the artist is just the capstone of a huge pyramid - weak foundations and all that.

I agree with this for many reasons.

I'll go one further: If I am personalizing my fan/artist relationship with Prince (which one shouldn't do)...I think he is treating me quite well.

I live in Minneapolis. The $77 I paid for lotusflow3r guaranteed me early/easy access into a concert he played at Paisley Park last year. That alone was worth the price of memebership.

Point being, it's not a universal truth, or shared experience, that Prince "treats his fans badly". It amounts to bitching and moaning in my book.

You are free to bitch and moan. You are also free not to pay your $$$ for Prince stuff. I bet some fans will do one, but not the other.

I can honestly say that Prince has never treated me badly. He's not my friend...he's an artist whose music I happen to enjoy. Someone who produces a product I can buy or not buy - as I choose.

I don't have any control over what he does...and I accept that. shrug

Prince does seem to get more creative and more interesting when he is angry (e.g. PFU, NMC4U, Family Name)

But eh... I don't think that's "the reason why he treats his fanbase badly".

From his perspective he probably doesn't feel he treats his fans badly at all, on the contrary. And even if he would, he probably wouldn't care that much, because if he would have to care about every fan crying and complaining about something they don't like, he would surely go crazy.

Maybe that's why he is crazy lol, but no, I think it has more to do with the fact that Prince has gotten used to back down on contracts and payments. He doesn't know any better than to have it his way or the high way for nearly 30 years already. He can back down on whatever, but hell no that you can. When you infringe on his rights and/or image you enter dangerous territory, because what's his is his and not anybody else.

But 'bad luck', karma, whatever for him, with his music he put the bar so high for himself and attracted so many critical thinking people that he has one of the hardest fan bases in the world to please. One that doesn't lie when something is shit, one that will always raise its voice and say what it REALLY thinks. That combination is destined to conflict, so it's not even intentionally. More like: action - reaction, "cause and effect".

Prince also has had everything money can buy and way too many yesmen and fanatics surrounding him. He did not have a lot of artistic input by others, let alone any useful input on how to conduct a proper business relationship with your fans, or your record company for that matter. He did have a turbulent musical and spiritual journey and experienced many radical life events, which shines through his music.

You could call it 'superstar syndrome', but that wouldn't do it justice. Still I think all the drama is tragic really. I imagine that a regular person could never walk up to Prince and just tell him like it is. If his bodyguard doesn't immediately remove this person, then he would probably not understand him or her and just be amazed that s/he can be so rude. I don't know really, but that's how I imagine it.

Anyways, no I dont think he treats fans bad to be more creative.

By the way, I also don't think he really "denies" fans remasters. That issue is a bit more complexed than Prince simply saying, no remasters for you.

Im past caring. I don't get annoyed at him at all, as far as i'm concerned my greatest fandom of him lies back in the past, i'm more interested in 'old' Prince, not so much the current version, if at all.

Frankly, He's 100% proof boring to me, he comes across as a dullard resulting in any new work just not interesting me that much, it's not that it's just not good enough. It's HIM.

Sorry folks, but I just gotta say this.

How can anyone with any perspective at all think that he "treats his fan-base badly"??

This is a healthy, productive artist, who releases quality, unparalleled music. This is a musician who just keeps giving.

He has nearly beaten any solo artist or band in the level and quantity of good music 4 many years now.

What will happen when he actually just decides that it isn't worth releasing new music any longer?

Do U really think you'll be happier?

Prince might've had someone to say no to him. Some people like the new tunes, and some didn't. And his fans were honest on both sides. I didn't like some songs in the 80's by Prince. But some I did. I'm being HONEST

It's HIM.

You care. You Register Your heart for Prince by giving him the finger. You come to the org everyday to disrespect him. I'd hate to see how you would act if he was 100% interesting to you. Who's the dullard and nutcase?

Have you ever wondered why Prince sometimes is treating his own fanbase badly.. ? Threats, lawsuits, denying re-mastered albums, tour dvd's etc..

And have you ever wished you had the power to look inside his mind, reading his thoughts... to get some answers to all this ?

well I have wondered about it, (don't laugh) and maybe this is the reason why Prince treats his own fan-base badly:

the famous danish film director Lars Von Trier said on TV something about what is inspiring for an artist, and what is least inspiring.

according Von Trier: PRAISE is what is least inspiring, it is very reducing (restricting?) for an artist's creativity if an artist always gets praise all the time ...

- on the other hand it is very inspiring when an artist gets resistance.

So there you have it: according this little "analysis" Prince doesn't like praise too much because it works restricting on him as a creative artist, he likes resistance from the environment surround him.

Maybe that is why he is treating the fan-base badly sometimes, he likes to create a little turmoil once in a while, he likes to "play" with us, he likes the resistance from the fans, cuz this is more inspiring for him than all the positivity and praise.

Do you believe me..... or does this sound like I am nuts to you...? biggrin

I do not feel he is treating his fan-base "badly". He makes music and performs at concerts. We buy the music and we pay for the concerts. That's enough for me. If he gives me more, great. If I learn of a new bootleg of music I haven't heard. I'm going to download it. I am fine with that arrangement.
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
