Prince Creep Cover What do you guys think about Prince's Creep Cover?
My feelings are mixed. I really don't care about how the song starts off but I love the guitar solos and how it progresses into something that no longer sounds like 'Creep'. Maybe I like it BECAUSE it doesn't sound like 'Creep' by the end. I have to add that I'm a Radiohead fan, but this song never held a special place in my heart. what do you think?

Gheez, how many times can this one song come up as its own thread?

I Love it! I'd pay good money for an official release (excellent quality)of Prince and the gang at that festival. I am here, P. Where are you?

i dont like how he changed the words.
even though i never heard of the song till he did it it came across (too me) that he was too cool to sing those self loathing lyrics. [Edited 3/23/10 20:09pm]

[Edited 3/23/10 20:09pm] Covers do not suppose to be like the original song, still is not fair to compare a live rendition of a studio song from the band best know by calculated over-elaborated music. Still, I love Prince version, the other version is like a typical alternative 90s cliche. "I have so much love for Prince. But why don't they look at me that way"- MJ

Prepare for another onslaught of 'Prince sings it much better than Radiohead'... Followed by a second helping of 'nobody sings a cover of Prince's songs better than Prince'
blah blah blah | |

i'm sorry but Prince's version was good but no way near the Radiohead version. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

I found it a bit embarrassing and awkward, to be honest. Contextually, it's completely nonsensical. The first chorus is a mess, vocally, and the change of tense in the lyrics is silly at best and asinine at worst. Musically, his takes on alternative rock always betray his classicist roots - which isn't his fault, of course. He is a classicist, the best in the world as we speak.
It still can't alter the fact that, like the aborted cunt Paul Hewson once said, Prince is perceived as a showbiz Christmas tree and the song Creep is a (pretty poor in the context of Radiohead's future work) over-egged and clumsy anthemic soundtrack to teenage angst. It doesn't mix. If he'd sang the original lyrics, it might have been interesting and - something we all want from Prince - revealing. But all he showed by the lyric change was just how many layers of ego and self-importance he's wrapped himself in. i just want him to show himself, finally.

I wont say his version is better..cause if youre a radiohead fan, im sure youd disagree. BUT, I enjoy his version a lot more!
Love the music, love the tone of his voice. LOVE LOVE LOVE the guitar playing! Just seems more powerful than most of his work in recent years.
