NPG Music Club

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is any way of getting the music that was released onto the npgmusicclub. I was a member and downloaded everything but have lost it all over the years - is there any-where I can go to get it back?

Thanks.

I might be wrong, but my impression is that discussion of obtaining internet released Prince material may constitute a rule violation of the Prince.org forum rules. I too was shit out of luck regarding NPG Music Club materials; Google is our friend in many ways for issues such is what you're dealing with.

It's a legitimate question as these were officially released songs that are now unavailable. Unfortunately, there is no legal way of obtaining most of the tracks except for authorized items pressed to disc such as those Hit And Run CD singles and The Rainbow Children.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Those Hit And Run discs are pretty damn expensive. I wish I could have bought those back in the day, but we didn't get a H&R show here. Rainbow Children can be had for under $10 at Best Buy still(NOS) as it was on their now-defunct Red Line label.

Aside from 8 songs (the Hit N Run singles), nothing from the NPGMC has been officially released on CD. Anything you buy would be a CD-R copy.

2045: Radical Man was also released on the Bamboozled soundtrack, which should be very easy to find, as well as Horny Pony.

My NPGMC music from the first incarnation still plays fine, as they are all MP3s. It's the Musicology-era music that won't play, which is sad because most of those versions are either slightly different and/or extended.

True, The Rainbow Children was also released on CD. I forget to include that in the NPGMC stuff, but it did take the place of the October Ahdio show.

many sites 'claim' to be legal.

But if they're selling unauthorised downloads, then believe me, they're doing
it illegally. Since there is no possible way they've sourced the tracks
legitimately.

I think - It's because the original download of Copenhagen contained a brief segment of another artist's music (I forget what the tune was)... NPGMC realised their mistake and swiftly replaced it with an edited version to avoid any copyright wrangles.

I seem to remember that Copenhagen hiccup. And Boris is of course, correct about the NPG tracks that appear on some sites.

It's track 10 on disc 2 of the Sabotage bootleg Continental Drift. It's called "Instrumental Groove/Jean Pierre" - 13:34.

On a whim, I checked my NPGMC downloads yesterday and none of them would play. I thought that somehow the DRM licenses went to the grave. It really wasn't a big deal since all are backed up multiple times to CD with the DRM bypassed, but I was still kind of pissed.

Seems all I had to do to get them to play was upgrade to the latest Windows Media Player. Just an FYI if anyone is having the same issue.

Mine still play fine, but i still have all the DRM's in the license backup folder. I assume that's where it looks for the license.

Year 1 didn't have DRM. Beyond that, yes.

I guess there was some recent Windows XP update that separated the DRMs from the older WMP or some voodoo shit like that.

I blame Larry.

Yeah, these were Xpectation, Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse, C-Note and the WMA singles like Magnificent, etc.

I don't even UNDERSTAND how it is possible, in 2010, that some people don't know how to find music (out of print or not) using the internet.

I know. Shocking really. Everything I buy, I've listened to on Spotify to see if I like it. And anything out of print is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Rerelease Jill Jones Vanity 6 & the Family and I'll buy the buggers!

But if you think about it - Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse were just songs from year one, recompiled. So if someone has year one stuff, they have those two albums, no? I wasn't aware of the C-Note thing. I just can't care about it, although I have it, to know when it was released.

I do have all those other files in MP3 though, that were originally WMA DRM
