Ok so i am having a Hendrix moment and was thinking I would would love to hear the Mighty Purple One's rendition of "If 6 were 9". I cant be the only one am I? Any other request out there?

For me it would have to be "For The Love Of You". Originally done beautifully by the Isley Brothers. I'd just love to hear it with his voice all over it. I know it would be amazing!!

nod This would be nice. I think he could handle 'Don't Say Goodnight' and '(At Your Best) You Are Love' by the Isleys in a suitably spine-tingling way too.

Well because he DID write it and recorded it in the 80's...In fact Steffine Mills covered it first that's why i thought you were kidding but it is a great song and I love it!

I don't believe you hmph!

Next you'll try to convince me, that he also wrote melisa morgan's "do me baby" or sinead's "nothing compares to you"

eek

I'd like to see him turn George Clinton's "Flashlight" into an acoustic guitar folk song. Yeah, I said it! eek
OK, for real, though, how about um, covering an Isley Brothers song like "Fight the Power,'' or "Take Me To The Next Phase.'' He could tear them songs up!
A Prince-ified version of Stevie's "Contusion'' would be interesting, too. Toss in a Bob Marley "Redemption Song'' and I'm good for life. lol

There's a live version of Redemption Song, with Prince on piano and Rosie Gaines on vocals, from the Nude Tour (I think)*. It's worth trying to seek out, as his chord changes in it (and Rosie's ad-libs) are wonderful. (Unfortunately, it's on my old PC, so I can't access it at the moment.)

* Hmm... Says here it was performed in 1999, which may be what I've been hearing - although it does sound a lot like the performance of Aretha Franklin's Ain't No Way from 1990, so maybe it's a different one.

Cool, thanks for that thread link. Missed that. And had no idea he'd covered any Marley in concert before. I needs ta hear dat now! smile

Hmm... Just been reading some info online, and I think I was probably wrong about the Nude Tour, and it is more likely to be the version from 2nd January, 1999 - from a release party at MGM Grand, Studio 54, Las Vegas. If so, it appears on CD4 of a boot called All Access on Thunderball, apparently. lurking

Could you imagine him doing anything by Grace Jones like Nightclubbing, Private life, Living my life, or even La Vie en rose (Yes I know that is Edith Piaf, but Graces version, gave the song so much more oomph). And then Prince could sing I need a man lol

Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman.
He'd be brilliant at it.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I wish he would cover one of his own song "Let's go crazy" in a rockabily style,
featuring Brian Setzer and and the Purple One on guitars,a contrabass player and a rockabily drum. That would be fantastic!!!!
You can tell about Prince's Future , but his Past is utterly unpredictable

Admittedly obscure selections but "Outta Love Again" by Van Halen and "For Your Life" by Led Zeppelin. Actually, any of the funk songs on the Presence album .
