The Purple Rain tour was even cheaper. Prices were raised for the Lovesexy tour so a higher quality company with better spelling and proofreading skills could be hired to print the concert tickets.

I used to enjoy the Lovesexy album & era. NOT ANYMORE
I played the album many times some years ago, but during the last Xmas I tried to play it again, and I couldn't I never truly enjoyed Eye No anyway, and Alphabet St. is perhaps my least favourite Prince hit of the 80s. Glam Slam is terribly overproduced, Dance On is a throwaway (cool drums though) and When 2 R In Love is his least memorable 80s ballad (if we discard that borefest called Condition of the Heart ) But I still dig the title-track, it makes me dance like mad... Lovesexy is his worst LP of the 80s hands down (even worst than ATWIAD), and DEFINITELY the suits were AWFUL There's a line between cool gender-bending and gayness, and Prince crossed that line in 1988 with bizarre & irritating results Fuck the Lovesexy era, the lack of success during 1988 was dire... I do agree with you about the title track. That's the best song on the album.Shame on Prince for not releasing it as the second single!

He looks like some kind of a cross between a superhero and a supervillain with them costumes in pictures of the very first message of this topic. Check out the turquoise outfit with the eye on the chest and shorts outside. And what's he gonna do with that guitar? Create a thunder storm?

I'm not that crazy about Lovesexy. I know a lot of fans love it, but to me it's just way overproduced. There's a lot that I like about it, but it's just... too much. He threw in everything but the kitchen sink on those tracks. See my comments in the Black Album thread and the thread about his post-87 outtakes.
As for the show he took on the road in support of it, I'm not really a fan of his big, over-the-top choreographed stage shows. [Edited 4/22/10 10:18am]

This could possibly be the second most popular thread title in this forum.
The first being "Is Prince Gay?" of course.

I think being I was born when this album came out and I was getting into Prince at 18, I had a very hard time getting on with it.. I would go as far to say the cover really put me off...
cut to 2 years later, it has to be in my top 5 albums... EYE NO - Greeaaaat upbeat summery opening ALPHABET STREET - Not exaqctly one of my fave hits but love it live! GLAM SLAM - Find this cheesy but god damn great and excellet 'epilogue(?)' ANNA STESIA - Cool cool tune DANCE ON - funk funky funky drumming!! LOVESEXY - Gots to be my favourite track!! WHEN 2 ARE IN LOVE - Beaaautiful, one of my overall favourite ballads EYE WISH U HEAVEN - Very unique Prince hit Accompanied by great vid and 12" POSITIVITY - The Unsung hero of the album...oh and great too! I think my original copy being the 1 track CD was another reason I found it hard to get in to aswell but now I own the tracked CD which was easier to follow.. LIVE Well let's just say I've had it on the last 2 days straight I FIND IT A HARD ERA TO GET INTO BUT THEN THE MOST INTOXICATING AND ENJOYABLE WHEN YOU DO

Era-wise, I can't say much because I wasn't around to experience it. From what I've seen and heard, some of those outfits aren't doing him any favors, but live, he sounded great.
I still have mixed feelings on the album. When I'm feeling open, I can really enjoy almost every track... but they never satisfy or engage like anything pre-Lovesexy. Black Album's the same way, it's like the songs aren't fully colored in. They may have a ton of instruments, harmonies, little tricks etc, but when it comes down to it, they just feel shallow. I do love "When 2 R In Love", it's kind of the evil version of "If I Was Ur Girlfriend", which is one of my favorites, uh course.

I feel this way about the opening song "Eye No".I like it,but I gotta admit,it is really overproduced. There's too much going on at the same time! There's some strong messages in this song but it's impossible to hear it because there are too many horns and too many voices, all struggling to be heard.

Yeah man, I camped out several times. Lovesexy Live or 'Livesexy' made me do it. I didnt see that show live, but my brother recorded it from the radio and I was hooked from then on. I had a bunch of friends who were Prince geeks too and we camped out all night for tickets to the Nude Tour, Act II and Gold. For Act II we had to buy tickets in winter. It was FREEZING but we had a great time. Yeah, those were the days... Yep,camping out for tickets was alot of fun I really miss doing that.

No,you're not confused His look in 1988 was sometimes bizarre. Love the era. I think the image suited the concept. Funk is its own reward.
