There Is Lonely Appreciation I think the tone and lyrics of this song represent loneliness very well. I like how the chorus emphasizes how lonely he's feeling three times. I especially like in the second chorus the way he sings: "Perhaps only Cain when he'd slain his brother could ever come close to knowing how."

I like the vocals & the darkness. I dunno it's an odd one to me. I like the guitar work in it about 1:15-1:30 & then it's done w/ the last chorus. I think it's pretty avg for Prince, but it's not bad. | |

I think it's a very dark, emotional song.
I've listened to it for different reasons. It's one of the better songs on TVOFFS.  ACRYLIC

Yeah, it's a strange one. You can feel there's definitely some raw/genuine emotion that's been put into it, but it doesn't really go anywhere. At only 2:29, it comes and goes before you know it. Love the delivery and words....he makes ya feel the loneliness.
"There is lonely...and there is LONELY...and then there's how I feel right now" Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. Prince friggen NAILS this song. The references to CAIN after he slayed his brother [Abel] are poignant and genius. The low tone in his voice...the way the melody moves...the gospel tinge..the almost gothic feel of the song. EVERYTHING works in this song. It's brilliant.
