----- NO those people are on crack. I honestly can't figure out how P could have put out one of his best CD last year yet some of you are implying he is not a wannabe of himself. | |

this may sound mean but watching Sheila E being interviewed at the peak of his powers made me cringe! - whether it was her decion or whether she was following his instructions [more likely!] it was just horrid to watch. As for the music Ready for the world take the crown!. | |

I'm glad you said that about Sheila. That annoyed me too! She was trying SO hard to be like Prince and it just didn't work. What made it worse is that she had a career way before hooking up with him and we knew what she was like. It made her look silly. | |

Id have to say one of the most recent was JC Chaves from Nsync.
He tried to pull off the sexual and vulgar antics, and covered prince songs in concert. H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!!!! He even said Prince was a great inspiration behind his act and his music. | |

Georgio by far was the most obvious copy cat in the 80s. I'll never forget the appearance he made on downtown Julie Browns show (ugh!!!) and he was trying so hard to act like Prince it was hysterical!
I always wondered Whatever happened to him? The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

SMH!! damn micki free was a huge prince wannabe! he copied his look completely back then, pretty annoying Y'all gotta remember that Prince and Mikki Free were cool with each other and they really did hang out together. Mikki even wore Prince heels and I mean high ones like Prince and if I'm not mistaken they were made by Prince's boot maker at the time. You can see them in some of Shalamar's videos. Now as for Giorgio, that boy was created by the label. He had talent cause he could play alot of instruments, but with his look, I'm sure what ever label he was on was like " Let's go get some of that Prince money, you look like him"! __________________________________________________

Georgiho !! LOL, jesus he would be huge today with technology as it is, his voice was too damned weak and horrible to hack it back in the day. TTD-dont talk shit about my boy!. #1 He's still cranking out music to a huge audience in europe-he's kind of their own domestic prince, #2 He was inspired by and had a similar aura as prince but was more of a rambling poet/ecclectic beholden to no particular style like the wannabe's who clung to mpls. syhth-there isnt one mpls sounding track on his debut album. #3 He's the goods vocally and his voice is more similar to a dirty Sam Cooke than any of Prince's many ranges. Ironically,Giorgio almost became a Prince protege In 1985,his demo tape made its way to Paisley Park Records. He was offered a recording contract, but turned it down because he wasn't gonna be allowed to produce his own music."Prince and BrownMark were gonna take all the credit for writing and producing my album",Giorgio said."Now I understand how Prince's thing works. He finds people who would do anything to become a star.I'm not one of those people".
He signed with Motown instead, and his debut album was released in 1986. | |

Wow that's amazing, i guess none of us can see when we are mediocre, he with that look would have benefited greatly by being associated with prince. As far as protoges go he would have been the most successful by far, and probably would have had more staying power than he ended up having at Motown-a fading label at the time. More power to him, i was a wannabe back then but my productions were relegated to the high school hallways lol.He signed with Motown instead, and his debut album was released in 1986. | |

No,I don't think he would have went far on Paisley Park Records. He would have done one album then faded away, like Mazarati,The Family,Jill Jones,Taja Sevelle,Tony LeMans and the others. For some reason, most PP artists didn't last very long. | |

Of course, his career didn't last very long on Motown, either Most Prince wannabees were 'over' by the late 80s.

Right, he was a wannabe regardless, but his wannabe credentials were cheapened by being on motown.I remembered laughing and thinking now every label is biting off of prince trying to get a lightskinned musical genuis lol.At PP he would have been more Sheila than Mazarati, 3 albums and some visable prince involvement peetering out in about 89-90. He could have then used the "i worked with prince" resume to get into production, maybe some tv stuff like wendy and lisa.Motown had no long term benefits to being a prince clone, they were just responding to what they thought was a trend. Hell if he can play an insturment he might have graduated to a gig as NPG in the early 90's, with that look? easy, prince would have kept that potential rival close lol..
