How many prince songs are their in the vault?

Does anybody knows how many prince songs are in the vault?
I heard prince during rave era he had claimed he had a 1000 songs on some interview.

Also do you happen to believe prince is releasing old music and just redoing them?

I can't remember where, but I think it was either with Chris Rock or Spike Lee Prince mentioned that there are multiple 'vaults' now. I can't remember if he said a number, but for some reason I recall '5' coming to mind (mind you, this was 1996/1997).

But when he was Interviewed by Oprah and she mentioned that the image of Prince was a very sexually charged one due to his lyrical content, he countered that, "Yes, but I've written a thousand some-odd songs. " sort of off-the-cuff.

So I don't know. I know that the video content alone would be amazing if the vaults are ever opened.

In a 1986 he said he had 300. In 1996 on the OPRAH show he said he had thousands and one a day.In 2004,on the ELLEN show he said thousands. I do believe him. Plus, hes always mentioning songs that are too good to release (in his opinion) like THE DIVINE & TURN ME LOOSE. i guess kevin smith was right when he said sumthin like "Why is he not releasing the videos,is he waiting for armaggedon to come".

Vault have 100 songs 10 versions each

have u ever thought of how he counts them?
eg Computer blue alone has countless versions

the oprah interview had lots of lies 'every one sounded different', a lot of personal stuff was made believe too

also instrumental verion 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,.....1999
if u cant tell me if Prince or Rosie did the opening scream for Gett Off, then u are not purple !!!

There are several lists on this very site that list all known recordings, and that's well over a thousand. Add to it the other outtakes we have no idea about, and I'll bet it's close to the 2,000 mark.

does it even matter anymore at this point? it seems pretty obvious
that he uses his vault tracks for nothing else than bait whenever
he's got a new scheme going and needs people to flock to his side
with their cash.

the clean, clear versions of some of the songs on that latest boot
were more exciting and cool to me than anything his site had for a
whole year.

yet, they talked about '10 hours worth of unreleased material' at
the time of the site launch.

after that, he gave a rather stale remake of "large room" to the
montreux website. didn't even bother to put it on his own site.

50% of the vault is already redundant because he's never going to
release it due to lyrical content.

at this point, the only thing of importance is how many people out
there are still hanging on to crisp and clean versions of songs
that we've only heard in sub par quality until now.

anything else seems pointless. wether he has 1000 songs in the vault
or 10. at this point it seems irrelevant.

I often wonder what the hell he's waiting for to release vault material. Yeah, I realize if he's got a new project on the horizon, he doesn't want old stuff, when he was at the top of his game being compared to his new work. That's fine. But in "off" years, when he isn't really doing much (2005, 2008, etc.) I really don't know why he doesn't put something out there from the vault.

I guess the problem could be that he's always got about 6 projects in the works at any given moment that in his mind may be released either tomorrow or never, but still....

But other than that, what exactly is he waiting for? To die? By which time it'll be too late for him to realize how much it's appreciated. Until there's enough demand for it? There's been demand for it for 20 years and now that he's cemented himself as a living legend after about a decade in the wilderness, there is never going to be a better time.

There are a lot of very minor things that could have been done that would have left me more satisfied with lotusfailur3.com. He could have put up even just 5 unreleased songs from the vault within the last year. Even some worthless piece of shit like "Fuchsia Light" or "Big Tall Wall". Hell, even if he'd put up lossless versions of any of that Chocolate Invasion box set.

I'm really puzzled lately about what he's waiting for. The only thing, aside from not wanting the new stuff compared to the old, is that he's waiting to add it as extra material on remastered albums, when/if they ever come to pass shrug

Here we go with one of the many million dollar questions about Prince and his vaults. Prince in 2004 did state that he has several rooms 4 the vault. I mean, I won't be surprised if there is over a thousand recordings siting there in the vault. U have 2 remember, he records everything! LOL! The vault contains alot of stuff there, demo/alternate versions, live recordings, outtakes, music videos, film projects, and alternate versions of music videos. Just think, that's just his own material! He even has unreleased side/related artist recordings in the vault also. Outtakes, alternate recordings, some remixes/extended versions, and even music videos from Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, The Time, Sheila E, The Family, Jill Jones, etc. is all in the vault also. Besides, all of the circulating unreleased recordings were from 1976/77-96. Circulation of material was stopped (by I think Paisley Park) back in 1996. So alot of the newer circulation of old recordings where from old tapes. There have been little 2 no new surfacing of unreleased recordings from 1996 to present due 2 that. Paisley Park is Area 51! So I don't think we will know 4 a long time the exact number of material in the vault. Some have tried but, we won't know the total count 4 a while. SMH!!!
