Do u think Prince should do a Gospel cd?

Prince has a long list of diverse music styles in his history. How would u feel if he released a Gospel cd? Yea or nay?

Well, it has to have that "Willing and Able" sound. like when he worked with the Steeles. (love that video by the way, don't know why it's still not on the Lotusflow3r site). Not sure if a gospel cd, will win over his overall fan base, because many of them already complain that he gets too preachy in some of his songs, but if he does it, it has to have enough soul to move the spirit; almost like a Leela James type of sound, she's not a gospel singer but has a great, soulful voice) or a Donnie McClurkin sound) and if it's that good, then it would do well in the gospel market.

How is that answering the question posed?

I think i remember that the album he offered 2 Patti LaBelle a few years back was supposed 2 b kinda gospel, too, but i might b wrong

I've always thought that reggae was like gospel music,
only with a different style of music and message; contemporary
Prince music is similiar 2 me, in that there's always a spiritual
dimension to it.

now, do I personally need a gospel cd from him? no, but it would
be appreciated, esp to hear Prince be direct instead of dropping
subtle messages here and there

for me, it's because for such a versatile artist to focus on this style is a waste. Also, it would also alienate a lot of his already depleted fanbase. What was wrng with him releasing an album featuring 'the cross' or 'Holy River'? Why would we need a full album of gospel?

well, i don't think he needs to do it, i was just wondering;

but i also don't think it would be a waste, there are fans out

there who really dig tune like 'still would stand all time."

oh don't get me wrong, I like Still Would Stand All Time. I just don't want a full album of it.

We've had Lovesexy and Rainbow Children plus many songs about god and religion. For me, that's enough smile

Really? Interesting. Reggae came out of Jamaica, and it took me a while to like it. I liked Calypso music better, as far as music from the West Indies. But I never associated reggae with flavors of gospel.

NO..NO...NO!!!

His best spiritual song was The Cross. But these days its just terrible when he tries to get spiritual in his songs. He has never been able to capture the "spiritual" feeling he did with the cross. When he performed this song live, it just sent chills throughout the audience. But those days are gone.

Yeah, like more of a soulful flavor, Donnie McClurkin style right? I think when Prince worked with the Steeles was the closest he came to that type of gospel feel. His falsetto sound in "Willing and Able" is awesome. Then when he started dancing in that video like he got the feeling, that just topped it off. Too bad that vid is not on the LF3r site.

I ran a thread a long while back about Prince gospel songs and it became a discussion about what should be classified as gospel - style or content? I would put "count the days" and 'Willing and Able" as the gospel but not necessarily anything on Lovesexy or the Cross...

I've never heard "Count the Days" but would like to hear it. I want to know what is this song he spoke about in an interview called "The Divine". Maybe if he does do a gospel cd, he'll put that on there to share with fans.

well since he called "lovesexy" a gospel album, i think another
'gospel' album would suit me just fine.

I got into Prince because of people masturbating with magazines and shit, not proclaiming holy er than thaw false bullshit..."truth is where all gonna die" so let's just have the best time possible and get down to some funky beats...our man needs to learn to smile again, and throw a few fucks in now and again

I think Prince should continue to let the Good News,
as "Gospel" is defined, take us to that special place
where when you feel it, it makes you wanna stomp your feet
and clap your hands and get up and shout it. Or maybe for
some, it takes us to a place of quiet, solemn reflection.

It's the delivery of the "Anointing," and whatever vehicle
that force chooses to use as a manifestation of Itself,
whether it be Reggae -- and oh, yes, Reggae does praise --
or church choir worship, or soul music or spiritualism,
or any unique form of particular ism, when you feel it,
you will know it. It speaks to your soul.

Does that require a CD or one special song? I don't know.
I guess that's why Mr. Nelson is the maestro smile

I think, though, that when Love is the radiant theme,
it is already a gospel song with universal mass appeal lol

I take it you mean traditional gospel such as James Cleveland, Staple Singers, Mahalia Jackson style? Sure, why not? Sounds like a fun and interesting idea.

Several years ago I gave him a cassette with a bunch of really old gospel songs on it...I have no idea if he ever listened or not. lol
