sign o the times v rave

Just b4 i comment i would like to point out that sott is still a better album than rave un2 the joy fantastic is but i want to compare live performances and not cd's.I seen the video for sott(the tour)recently and while i liked its energy and the whole 80's vibe i think the rave un2 the year 2000 was far better as prince could do what he liked compared to when he was with warner. The jam with lenny kravitz was cool as was Sly and the family stone(everyday people was great). What do u all thing out there and can u recommend any other live video's or dvd's that are good?

the album is but i thought the millenium performance was better as i like smaller venue performances compared to stadium ones.the audience looks more involved.

IMO the SOTT video kicks ass. It's my favourite live video of Prince. I do like Rave, but I like SOTT much better.

Rave is a great perforamce, but SOTT has that vibe that is just missing from Rave. The "Fun" vibe.

SOTT is top, Rave is really good...any of Prince's live video's would have to be very good to beat the performances of "Sott","Housequake", "Hot Thing" and "I could never take the place of yo man!" I thought Lovesexy 88' came pretty close in places.

NO CONTEST SOTT! i don't think prince is ever restricted in what he does or did live while with warnew so i'm not sure your arguement applies, but the rave performance is cool too anyways!

This is a bit ironic because a fair bit of SOTT had to be reshot back at Paisley Park during the week of 18 July 1987. Not only was much of the footage not usable from Rtterdam, but they also need to include audience and stage close-ups. So they brought in several hundred extras to act as audience whilst Prince and the band lip-synvched through the previously recordedconcert performances.

Different strokes for different folks, but go and watch Sign OTT again. It's up there with "Stop Making Sense" and "The Last Waltz". The "Rave" DVD is good, but either way you look at it it's a gig. "Sign OTT" is an experience.

I love SOTT, but I think it would be better without all the little staged bits. With Rave at least you actually kind of feel like you are just there watching the whole concert uninterrupted.

The "Rave" video was good but it looks cheap and scattered compared to "SOTT".

i have 2 say the sott video, only because of the little movie inputs, and the way he per4med "4ever in my life" "hot thing" and "sign o the times"

i think the "rave" song itself is a little cooler than the sign o the times cut.

SOTT- if only because of the song selection...and let's face it, parts of that Rave video were just cheesy (the Purple Rain performance anyone?) Plus the camera doesn't move around every two seconds on the SOTT video.

I prefer SOTT. Not even a contest. For me, only the first 10-15 minutes of RAVE are any good...as I remember reading here or on AMP once, he "lost all his energy once he changed out of the blue suit" LOL!!!

As a matter of fact, the RAVE vid features a particularly annoying thing for me: That little moment where he crowd-surfs to the piano. Cool little moment which I enjoy UNTIL Prince being Prince has to throw some strings on the soundtrack and make the rest of the scene slow-mo. YUCK! Why not leave it as is? Minute gripe, but dammit it annoyed me!!!

Who cares if SOTT wasn't really "real"?

Its the overall effect that matters.

Oh, for a DVD release of SOTT
with extras, like the deleted tracks
Girls & Boys, Let's Go Crazy, Kiss, When Doves Cry, 1999, Purple Rain.
