On the Jam of the Year tour at the Lexington, KY show, he all but screamed at the sound guy during the build-up to "Face Down." Along with all the things he was usually saying before the song ("no slaves in this building," "is this an 18 & over affair," etc.), he went into some bizarre speech about the universe and a bunch lot of other things and then lashed out at the sound guy about...something. Most of the rant was inaudible; I think his bass and/or mic wasn't loud enough. He was clearly angry but it was quite fascinating. I've never been able to find a tape of that show but have always wanted to hear it again. Damn! Prince throwin a hissy fit. I would be interested to see that myself. There is a Purple Rain Tour Rehearsal boot that I have where Prince gets pissed off at somebody (not sure who it was). You can hear him say, "If you put the motherfuckin magazine down and play your part!!" He is ROYALLY PISSED OFF at somebody. When I first heard it, I just about fell off my chair laughing. It's funny as hell in an odd sort of way. [Edited 3/15/10 7:59am] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

And even mid-song he would be giving commands to the sound guy and lighting crew. It was effed. That doesn't sound like it was much fun to see. The show had its fantastic moments (pretty much whenever he rocked out on the guitar) and it had its boring moments (Larry Graham coming on stage for 30 minutes). He was in kind of a funk mood though (and not the classic 80s funk. The'too many horns/musicology' funk that drives a lot of people here crazy.)

I can't figure out 1 single thing that annoys me with Prince in concert.
What annoys me is people running in and out for beer during the show, filming the concert with cell phones, standing up in front of me at seating places (at the O2 in 2007) etc. Now that is/ was annoying. Prince 4Ever.

But really, what annoys me the most is the things Prince doesn't say on stage, like "Shit", "Piss", "Fuck, "Cunt", "Cocksucker", "Motherfucker", "Tits", "Fart", "Turd" and "Twat". If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Anyway, it was when he had dancers come up on the stage and one quite older woman was on stage doing her thing and when it was over, Prince sang out, "Will somebody come up here and get they grandmama, please?" I felt bad for the lady because she looked a little embarrassed. I just thought that was wrong. Hell, no matter how old she was, she honored him by paying her money for a ticket and he dissed her!
I'm sure Prince did that in a joking manner. I don't think he did it with the intention of embarrassing anybody. Prince does have a funny sense of humor at times. Edited to say that during a concert at one of the Celebrations in Minneapolis, Prince called a man onstage to dance. Prince asked the man his name, and the man said his name was, "Tuna". Prince said in response something to the effect of, "Better make it funky Tuna, or we'll put you back in the can". Guess I'm used to Prince's dry sense of humor, because it doesn't bother me much. [Edited 3/14/10 17:42pm] Yeah, I know he was just playing, but it just seemed like the lady was embarrassed and I felt for her. Perhaps she was ok with it, too, and I'm the one trippin.

I think he meant that Lincoln used the ending of slavery to win the war. If you look at the history, Lincoln was not a blazing abolitionist. If he could have unionized the North and South without abolishing slavery, he would have done it, but I didn't mean to jack the thread. Sorry. [Edited 3/15/10 12:50pm]

Oh yeah at the 10/24 show Prince was an asshole to one of the girls onstage and first called her a guy, then in an attempt to correct himself and try to look super witty he said "Shim." He thought this was so funny that he repeated it several times.

Hopefully she was able to kind of laugh it off and not let it bother her. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
