I never heard that. I knew that it sold over 500,000 copies and that qualified for double platinum because it was like 3 albums. Just the most underrated Prince album ever.

What's your source? I really have no idea. It's possible, I suppose. There's not a whole lot of triple albums out there, and he probably did more promotion for that album than any other in his career.

I recall reading it was the 3rd or 4th, yes.
Considering it was an Indie release and Prince made the lions share coupled with the fact that it could have been cheaper than it was originally, Prince made bank.

Though it didn't spawn the original 10 singles rumored, nor any real hits, I think it was quite successful on several levels (I know some of you hate that album, but I like it. nod )

Off the top of my head...Sandinista! by The Clash, Songs in the Key of Life, by Stevie Wonder (OK I cheated. It's 2 LPs plus a bonus 7" but it equals three records), and...I can't think anymore.
Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

I don't know where it stands in sales, but it is the answer to a trivia question:

What's the longest album ever released?

Good...better scaled down to 2 discs I think.

Original material, yes, but I don't think it should count as it's really it's just a collection of unreleased material recorded over a span of 15 years.

You would have to check. I remember reading something about Emancipation breaking some record....but it was counting the amount of units shipped from the factory to retail outlets (in otherwords, the retailers orders...not customer sales), so the figures were not entirely factual.

There was something similar with 2Pac's double CD "All Eyez on Me"...it initally sold something like 500,000 units, but it was counted as a million sales because it was a double disc set (so it was counting single unit sales twice).

The music industry or artists can put a spin on on figures to work it in their favour, it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case of Emancipation, especially as his first CD away from Warners, he would wanna stick it to them hard, and figures like that sound impressive
