Prince's Family

I may sound like a creepy stalker here, but I'm really curious as to what Prince's family thought about him & his music during his early career. Does anyone know of any quotes or interviews they have given? The reason I ask is because I can't imagine his sister would have been too pleased about the song "Sister" & his parents mustn't have been pleased about the movie Purple Rain, what with him portraying his father as a wife beater even though he wasn't & portaying his mother being white even though she was black etc.

There was a white woman in Purple Rain? Where? Oh, you mean Brenda? Yeah, she wasn't Prince's mama.

Just a word of advice here.

You might not want to start your post with 'I may sound like a creepy stalker'. Firstly, it makes you sound like a creepy stalker, and secondly, you'll offend all the creepy stalkers on here.

great thread!

i think that during the days when he was really at his commercial peak,
his family would have had raised eyebrows

prince's music, though symbolic is very personal 2 him

i can imagine his parents sitting with him and asking him questions

nevermind the extended family

lol

Oh what about under the cherry moon? What did they think when they portrayed his and living in a world where everything was black and white and shades of gray?

Or in 'Graffiti Bridge' that had him living and working on a sound stage that housed the facades of several miniature night clubs?

I've always wondered about his relatives, too. You don't ever hear about them. I think they would understand his creative license with his music and movies, but still...are they as strange as him? smile

emotionally on his own very young and stayed with freinds and extended family. it kind of sounds like you think he grew up in the Brady bunch household/not much talk, just a lot of yelling, but son brought them into the limelight and gift so its all good as far as his"family" was concerned/ one more thing SISTER is not always saved for biological siblings/brother from another mother as example

if you get angry when other people have a differing opinion to your own, it says more about you than them. I'm here for the banter, don't take things so seriously.

Yeah, same thing in that they are all WRONG. Both his parents were light skinned blacks and considered themselves black. His mother gives a pretty good explanation of their family history in Jon Bream's book Purple Reign.

Both Jon Bream's book Purple Reign (1984) and Per Nielsen's book DMSR, give a pretty good childhood/family history.
