Prince's press conference "performance" before Super Bowl 07.

I just watched a video of Prince during a live press conference hours before the Super Bowl back in 07. In the beginning, he allowed for the reporters to feel free to ask questions. But, before one poor man could even utter a sentence Mr. Nelson brusquely shut his ass up with a the rip of the guitar strings
into the intro of "Johnny be Good". Even though it was a bitchy thing to do you still could not deny that it was an incredible performance from "His Royal Badness"! Prince did two more songs:"Anothlovenhoenyohead" and "Get on the Boat" which he did with much skill and gusto as the aforementioned song. My only pet peeve was the crowds blatant lack of excitement and respect for what I deemed a beyond great "preview" of what they would soon witness later on that night. If I was a reporter I would be glad that a musician of his caliber gave a "free concert" instead of standing on stage answering moronic, repetitive questions for the sake of some dumb magazine article for a 1st world nation that barely reads! lol

i loved that performance,he tore that guitar up when he played "rock lobster" and "Another lover". I wonder wat make up that dude was wearing. Anyways u can tell the crowd was enjoying it cuz a lot of people were smiling, holding up their cellphones and a few were on their feet during Get on the boat.

They're reporters, not people.

But the funny thing was that all of the reporters covering the pregame festivities at the convention center were told that Prince would not answer questions. The NFL Network said this, and it was expected Prince and the Band to perform in some variety.

When Prince changed his mind, he did it tongue and cheek. So some reporter piped up and asked him and Prince cut the reporter half-sentence, smiled wildly, and growled his guitar as to signify this is what I came here to talk about.

Billy Joel did answer some queations and he constantly said to the reporters that he was doing the American national anthem and that was it. He had the easy part. He said everyone was more important to see Prince and his halftime performance, which turned out to be killer.

Prince is a performer, an artist, and he talks through is music. There was no need for him to answer questions.

I'd love to get a copy of Prince and the Band playing with Grupo Fantasma performing on South Beach. I've heard it was a killer gig.

This is what you are talking about right? After Prince's press conference warm-up he performed with Grupo Fantasma on Friday evening, the same day as the press conference.

Two days later Prince and the Band killed it in the rain during the classic halftime performance.

Good grief. Reporters are there to cover a story - not to endorse it or to applaud. That's why newsmakers bring their own people to press events - so folks will hear someone applauding them on the news.

I'm as big a Prince fan as you're likely to find. But if I'd covered him as a reporter (I used to be one, once upon a time), I wouldn't have clapped at a news conference, either. It simply isn't done.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
