I'd like to see e Prequal to Purple Rain instead. Prince's first split followed by a trip to the emergency room, working on his now infamous scream but sounding like a 12 year old girl being chased by the boogieman, jumping off his dad's piano followed by the worst beating of his life...the possibilities are endless! Is Gary Coleman available?

It would definitely be like "The Final Conflict" the final chapter in "The Omen" trilogy.

Just like when Damien cursed the Nazarene, the Kid, a.k.a. the Christ, would confront the statue of Venus De Milo.

And as he carasses her up and down and curses her vanity the heavens would open up and Christ, in the form of the Kid, would come down and turn Satan, aka Morris, into a beam of light from a flower.

Everyone would gather and sing to the Heavens.

The End.

BOTL...I am a screenwriter looking at some interesting things and talking to some people. Guess what...they're listening. Without going into too much, I'm looking at a storyline involving the early 80's Minneapolis world of Prince.

A great, saucy storyline that I'm just not at liberty to give away yet. If you look behind the scenes of this stuff, the stories that were created are classics. Terry and Jimmy Jam, Jesse Johnson, The Time, the Family, Vanity 6. There's so much to explore.

Not a "Purple Rain Three" but a much more refined and focused story looking at several relationships and conflicts that arose.

If you're a screenwriter I hope you're doing it for fun because there's no way in you'd have the rights to "Purple Rain: The Story Continues."

Well his significant other is confusing in a follow up cuz Ingrid was basically a spiritual ghost and Apollonia was his main squeeze, so I'mma say he and her have kids and the son ends up being Junior and he outdoes Prince in everything he does. Truly a heir, he follows in his father's footsteps and becomes the next Prince (bloodline). Prince is proud but finds it annoying that when female fans call out "Prince!", they are referring to his son, lol
Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

If there will be a final sequel to Purple Rain, it should be about The Kidd and Morris beeing snubbed by the Business Suits who took charge of the Music Business these days. Both loose their Night Clubs, so they have to bond together to show the Business Guys with their repetetive "Auto tuned" music what real talent and creativity is. The Kidd and Morris begin to produce new acts and bring them on stage in a grand Talent Contest Finale against the acts of the above mentioned Industry Villains. The Acts of the Villains could consist of Justin Timberlake, Pussycat Dolls, Kayne West and many other overrated artists.

Title could be Breakin' 3: Fight the Industry... oh sorry, that's another should-be sequel... biggrin

Nah. It would be a biopic which is different. Purple Rain was fictional story with a psuedo "Blair Witch" marketing strategy billed as a loose autobiograpy of Prince. The story we're looking at is the world through someone's eyes who had first hand knowledge of it. The ups and downs, highs and lows. Most of all the creativity that came from the whole environment and the bonds that were formed. If I told you who it was and what perspective it comes from...I think everyone would get really excited. It's still conceptual/speculative at this point though. It might happen though.

Here's my idea...

THE NEW REALITY starring Prince....

In the new movie,The Kid is a famous rock star living in Hollywood. He's wealthy, lives in a huge mansion, and throws lavish parties for his celebrity friends, including Morris Day,who lives nearby. But his life feels empty. He feels like something is "missing".

He and Morris return back to Minneapolis for a benefit concert, and they both realize that things have really changed. The city is run down, taken over by gangsters and criminals, and the people there are sad and have given up.Prince runs into an old girlfriend who is now working as a social worker.Prince discovers that he is still in love with her,but she is bitter. She feels that Prince abandoned her for the fame and fortune of Hollywood. She's still pissed at him.Morris meets an old flame who shocks him with the news that he has a teenage son!

A subplot involves The Revolution.Prince and the band are reuniting for the benefit concert, but they haven't played together in YEARS.There's alot of hurt feelings and bitterness. Can they work out their differences? Will it lead to a full-fledged reunion? Is it even possible to go back to the way things used to be? Much of the movie will revolve around this question.

Can The Kid and Morris liven things up in their old hometown? Can they rebuild a town that is falling apart? Can they battle the gangstas and all the negative influences? Could this be the "mission" that the Kid needs to accomplish,in order to feel good about life again? Will Prince's old girlfriend finally forgive him,and possibly love him again? Old lovers, old bandmembers, familiar surroundings, but an entirely new reality.

Like you said, I doubt it'll happen but it would be cool.

In it, "The Kid" could have quit playing music and gone into seclusion for the sake of spiritual growth. Meanwhile, music has gone to the dogs. There's a new band on the scene that's using his style and his music, dumbing it down and getting rich off of it. This, along with a beautiful new singer asking for The Kids help, convinces him to come out of hiding and school everybody on what real music is. That could work, I think.

I like this idea lol

I like that idea and the pitch (it reads like the back of a dvd:). However, I'm not sure if the players have the acting chops to pull off such a dramatic story. It would be interesting to see though.

I had an idea 4 this one a while back.....it was called 'Sugar Rain' and showed how 'The Kid' had finally made it in the music business, but when a friend of his dies after a drugs overdose he disappears & leaves it all behind. He then spends the next few years playing small bars & clubs around the country, under a new name, until a young woman named Eve tracks him down and asks him 2 come 2 her school & teach some inner city children how to play some 'real music'.
He goes with her, sees that the kids have some real talent but are too bogged down by today's standards of 'sampling everything but not playing anything'. He shows them how to play and they enter a competition- a battle of the bands kind of thing. The kids win the competition, and The Kid is rediscovered by the world again and is asked to do a comeback concert- which he does, with the kids as his band
That's just a brief outline of the full idea (I actually started writing this down before I put it away and 4got about it)

I like your idea!! clapping This is excellent.

Purple Rain II - Acid Rain

The Kid has grown up and lost his mojo. His innovation is dead and, whilst his musical skill is second to none, his ability to write a good tune escapes him. So he turns to Acid House to try and find a new sound.

"Aceeeed!" the Kid screams.

Boom boom boom boom. the bass drum kicks in, four to the mother fucking floor.

"Gimme some Aceeeeed!" he screams again with a falsetto that would shatter glass.

Boom ts boom ts boom ts boom. The high hat raises the song as it continues to build its acid ass.

The kid then fiddles with his knobs, twisting and turning them with gay abandon. An arpeggio swells up around the tight beats creating a kaleidascopic trip of wall-to-wall kick-ass house music.

"Gimme some bass with that mother fucking aceeeed!" the Kid yells, positively loudly. A small amount of pee escapes. the Kid smirks.

Boom ts bwang boing ts boom ts bwang boing ts boom ts bwang bwang boing boom. the bass rumbles through the Kids loins and his pee stained crotch inexplicably grows.

A sexy woman enters the studio. Her legs are as long as the Kid is short. She owns the club that the Kid is resident at.

"What the fuck of all fucks is that fucking noise Kid?" The woman politely asks.

"Its my new sound. Its gonna make me huge again. Its gonna make me current. Its gonna make me mother fucking fonkay again!" The Kid quietly responds.

"You aint playing that shite in my god damn club dude!" the woman tentatively retorts.

"Oh, but y not? Cant u c that 2 me it is arousing?" the Kid asks, slipping into a somewhat perplexing bout of princebotics.

"Im sorry, can you say that again using the correct spelling please?" the long legged woman responds.

"Shit, fuck, fucking fuck fuck!" the Kids cries. "Y cant eye speak 2 u in the way eye have BE-come used 2 over my long yeARs?"

"huh?" the woman explains. "look, forget your speech impediment, I am not having that pile of crap being played in my club. this is 2010, not fucking 1987. Acid house is old school!"

"But it sounds so fresh comp-ared 2 my other stuff. When eye was under CONtract with the Brothers Warner, my sound was fresh. Now it is dull and uninspiRED. eYe like Aceeeeed!"

Enter Morris Day

"Yo Kid! Pass the dutchie on da left hand side bro. Listen to the chick. She knows things you dont." The Morris of Day says.

"Larry! Larry? Where art thou Larry?" The Kid calls out. But, alas, Larry was nowhere to be seen. He had taken a vow of obscurity, forever more to walk the road of nondescriptness.

There was a knock on the studio door. The sexy woman, the Morris of Day and the 51 year old Kid all took a double take and fell silent.

"Who could that B?" the Kid shouts perplexed. "I better find out B-fore it is 2 late"

"Too late for what, 51 year old Kid?" The Day asks.

"If whoever it is hears my NEW sound, they may boot(le)leg it and sprEAd the 'word' of my nEw inVENTion" claims the 51 year old kid. "Quick, hide Pro-Tools aNd Fruity Loops. they must NEVER (A) see (D) my crEATion". the Kid closes his laptop and walks tentatively to the door. He opens the door and peaks out. there are two suited gentlemen standing at the door.

"Good afternoon sir" Says one of the suits. "I was wondering if we could take some time to talk to you about the great god Jehova?" the suit asks.

"Go fuck your-seLf" the Kid shouts "I got Aceeeeed!!!!!". He slams the door shut.

"I thought you loved god and all that jazz?" the woman cries out in apparent pain, like she had lost her only thread to reality in that very moment.

"Yeah Kid. I concur with this sexy woman. You have been a washed up, good for nothing, talentless born-again for years now. What has changed?" the Morris of Day sings.

"Eye just fOUNd my nEw sound. The SouND spEAks 2 me and tells ME to sWEAR, Eat mEAt, denOUNCe god and take Aceeeed". the Kid of 51 years explains.

"fuck you" the woman whispers.

"fuck you too!" the Day explains

"fuck who?" the Kids wonders. He takes out his guitar and begins to play a song called Purple Rain. Morris the Day and the sexy woman begin to well up. the tears fall down their cheeks and they hold hands. They wave their other hands over their heads in time to the magnificent sound coming out of the speakers.

The atmousphere is electric and it looks like this little story is coming to a conclusive yet happy ending. The Kid walks up to the Microphone. The sexy woman and the Day wait with baited breath as the Kid prepares to sing the first, emotive verse. Just as the intro comes to an end, with the Kid at the mike, he opens his mouth and begins to sing.

"Aceeeeed!"

Boom ts bwang boing ts boom ts bwang boing ts boom.

I think any sequel would have to have Prince primarily in a mentoring role - either teacher, father, or producer of a younger act.

What would be interesting is if they incorporated some real-life criticisms into the movie ("he's a has-been", "he can't make a hit song anymore") and have Prince overcome that in the movie. As in, while he's producing another act, he's secretly recording his comeback album after-hours.

Another take would be to have a son show up out of nowhere (Apollonia's, maybe) and need direction.

Great ideas!

I think it would be silly for The Kid to STILL be a "struggling musician" at age 50 lol In the story that I came up with,he's a superstar who made it.And yes,it's interesting that,in Graffiti Bridge,The Kid and Morris are still playing small clubs, lol.Their careers didn't really progress at all.

According to a 1989 press release,'Graffiti Bridge' was supposed to be followed by a sequel called 'The Dawn'.When it bombed, those plans were abruptly cancelled.I agree with you,by making 'GB',Prince may have screwed up his chance to make a credible sequel to 'Purple Rain'.

In retrospect,he probably should have done a 'Purple Rain' sequel much sooner...maybe two years later (in 1986,instead of UTCM).

Wasnt Purple Rain kinda what you would consider a beginning? How do you make a prequel to a movie that was already the beginning?
I really dont wanna see a movie about musicians struggling to make it when you know the outcome is still gonna be them struggling to make it.
I can see it now...

"Before the rain" (plot- The kid, and Morris struggling to make it, playing at local night clubs and become bitter rivals in the process, but somehow find common ground in the midst of a tragedy)
