Prince... "Le Freak", "Funkytown" and the 1978-1979 DISCO music ?

Do you think Prince was inspired by the disco music in the late 1970's ?

- the 2 first Prince albums sounds a bit "DISCO-ey" to me ?

- He played a CHIC number, the Disco classic "Le Freak" (Freak Out) In London 2007 ?

- Lipps Inc., their big Disco hit: "Funkytown" was written by a guy from Minneapolis, I have read somewhere (maybe Per Nielsen's A Documentary?) that Prince wrote the "1999" song in response to "Funkytown", Prince was very inspired by the sound of "Funkytown" ?

- I belive I have read also that Prince was inspired by the movie "Saturday Night Fever" (Bee Gees etc.) when he created the "Graffiti Bridge" soundtrack/ movie ?

Personally I absolutely LOVE the late 1970s DISCO era, the music, the clothes/ outfits, the "carefree" message: "go out and DANCE, be happy, enjoy life, have lot of fun, have a lot of sex... don't think too much."

I own a lot of these classics,

Donna Summer,
Gloria Gaynor,
Bee Gees,
Eath Wind & Fire,
Kool & The Gang,
CHIC,
Sister Sledge,
Village People,

etc... this music puts a smile on my face, makes me happy. music

What do you think ?

Was Prince then & now inspired by the music / message of the DISCO 1978 / 1979 ?

Bee Gees
Eath Wind & Fire
Kool & The Gang

I guess he was definitely influenced by these.

And I agree - For You and Prince sounds like pseudo-disco nod

People who are actually old enough to know what they are talking about in regards to 70s music understand that half the music from that decade WAS disco. Artists who are not necessarily classified as disc were doing it because everyone was doing it. Some so-called non-disco rock acts were biting disco to get a hit - like Rod Stewart and KISS.
