his best instrumental album, that's only marginally better than saying ona is the best official live album. there are only technically two, aren't there (c-note's got vocals). i'd prefer xpectation. i'd nearly agree with the dance, but ona isn't the worst...(i'm not a huge 3121 fan)

Xpectation is a much better album imho, it never gets boring. N.E.W.S. has its moments, but I'll never understand why prince decided to release this on cd and the much better Xpectation was only available as download.

NEWS is a very good album. I rather listen to long instrumentals than another slow, traditional falsetto ballads.
I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it's fantastic.

Mr.John Blackwell on drums, Mr. Renato neto on Pianao& Synth, Ms. Rhonda Smith on Acoustic& Electric Bass, Mr. Eric Leeds on Tenor& Bariton Sax and of course Mr.Prince doing his thang on everythang! A fantastic group of musicians in my opinion.Have some cool friends over, put it on an let it rippp. couch Or enjoy on your own rose .

Prince’s N.E.W.S.

North
This song feels like a question 2 me. 2 Love or Not 2 Love.
Like a pendulum in your mind swinging as your heart is swaying.
I Love this seductive track. The Guitar is so strong and climactic.
The soft Piano and Saxophone seem to convey that a decision has been made.

East

Still in a thought provoking vibe. This song feels like an angry relationship.
The Saxophone states a point of view…The guitar responds with a much stronger point of view.
It almost sounds like a female interrogation and then the man laying down the law.
These two sides merge in the 9th minute, yet soon the bickering continues. Talk about “Guitar Talking,” The guitar seems to get fed up toward the end. The emotion as the song unwinds feel like tears of hopelessness.

West

This is a nice jazzy rock song. I get a peaceful feeling from it, however, I feel the song portrays the happiness of being alone. This song doesn’t remind me of conversation as North, East, and South, do.

South

This song opens with a talking vibration. The song starts out happy and funky, like a man is trying to rise above a broken heart. He’s falling apart a little bit. This song does a great job in telling an instrumental story that I feel I hear as a listener. There’s Love on the N.E.W.S, but there is an unspoken tragedy written between the lines. Some of the greatest writing in History, are not comedies.

This is an emotional record.

My Favorite Track is “North.”
Followed by South, West, and East. cool

I would agree.. No words.. (I don't care about the words in pop music anymore..So, it fits me).

Just flow...Grooves.. Not too jazzy, or ("artsy" for the sake of being), but not just funky music..

I can't put Xpectation or N.E.W.S. above one another as they both have tracks/parts I absolutely and other than I skip every time. To be honest (imo), there's an absolutely brilliant and stunning instrumental album to be made of the best parts of Xpectation, N.E.W.S., C-Note and a little bit of Piano and Voice mixed into a comp cd. But I (admittedly) have short attention span and lack of patience with crap disorder. I edit down and make comps for pretty much every artist I collect more than a couple releases from.

In my personal opinion, n.e.w.s. is the last creative album from the man. The Rainbow children, One night alone, Xpetation, c-note and n.e.w.s., are the last works from prince where it seems prince can still do anything. If there was a little 'zappa' in prince, it stops after n.e.w.s.
After n.e.w.s. I was really curious about the new direction of his music, but the 'easy pop you already know'of musicology, 3121, Planet earth, and most of lotus/mpls was a progressive disappointment.
n.e.w.s. is not a masterwork, but some parts on it are quite original and have a strong vibe, and other tracks (like east) are the most experimental he did.
imho

I lost this today on e-bay.the 4 corners fold out.top.

Whats the stylings? is it mostly a Jazz record or quite funky?

That is why I bought 3 copies when it was first released. I have some unopened just because I knew this would be a collectible.

It is a brilliant album that demonstrates the diversity and range that makes Prince the preeminent musical genius of the last 30 years.

While N.E.W.S. has many interesting ideas (and some fine tuned for later albums, as my Book will show), I don't think it's his greatest.

The only perfect thing about this record is that he's not telling everyone how they're going to hell because they're not a Jehovah's Witness, telling women they're place in the world, or whatever other irritating thing he does on records.

I don't think "N.E.W.S." is Prince's best album. I agree with the person who said it was boring. I call the album "N.E.W.S." "Snooze". lol The perfect album to put yourself to sleep with. bored I hardly ever listen to it.
