Prince has worked with alot of James Brown's people and of course copied his style in alot of ways...but has anyone got the low down on any meetings or pictures of the men together ?

Have you checked out the video of Prince, Michael Jackson and James Brown onstage together? That was a hell of a meeting.

That performance was sooooo embarassing! I don't care what nobody says, Prince was high that night and it wasn't It was what we call "white girl", snow, whatever you get the picture. I will always say that Morris and Vanity wasn't the only ones doing coke, remember birds of a feather flock 2gether...Even Susan Rogers has stated that Prince most likely did some X as well during the 80's...remember the drama behind "The Black Album"? How did he put it in the Rolling Stone article in 90" something about one night with the soul and he saw the letters GOD! ^Yeah, to the untrained eye, he looks high. But that was just part of his act at the time. Fits right in with his "purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka" image. I think he tried a little too hard to upstage James and MJ that night and it backfired on him.

I have never taken cocaine, but is likely to negatively affect musical performance?

He did some weird screams (not his usual screams and sounds), knocked a post over, and played some very weak guitar, especially by his standards.

I know he did have a sort of strange persona during his concerts, but this was different in a way, at least to me.

I think he was just overwhelmed (with joy) and excited about playing for J.B.. It's the same reaction I'd probably have if I ever met him.

People have also mentioned that this is a prime example of Prince not being in control of the show, and his performance suffering as a result. For instance, had Prince been performing and invited MJ and JB onstage, it probably wouldn't have been such a snafu. Our man likes to be in control.

Apart from that meeting, I don't know of any others.

i think i read somewhere that James Brown wasn't to fond of prince when in his EARLY years. He said he was "biting his dance moves and screams" maybe someone can post the link

They were both on at the UK Hall of Fame induction Nov 2006 but JB was on first and Prince on nearly last so maybe they didn't meet but would have thought they might

Man, i love everything about MJ's mini-performance,JB's introduction, nice clear vocals, removing his sunglasses before that tornado spin, decent moonwalk. Crowd went nuts. James Brown was all teeth, smiling his ass off.

Has it ever occured to anyone PRINCE may have been high on music, high on the funk. damn whenever I have seen prince funkadelic/parliament and d'angelo my face had the same reaction just lke prince was. He could have been on drugs or he could have been clean.

I hope you guys have undestood that sometimes just the music can get you high.
I am experiancing this right now while listening to when doves cry live version during the purple rain tour on my tv.

Also present at the ceremony were Patti LaBelle (performed You Don't Have to Say You Love Me), Nona Hendryx, Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Wolfmother (performed Communication Breakdown), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Giles Martin, Dermot O'Leary (host), and Paul Gambaccini.

Prince, during his induction, invited everyone over to see him live in Las Vegas but gave an apology that he couldn't perform live at the venue. Rod Stewart appeared live by satellite from Los Angeles in a Celtic Shirt and accidentally dropped his award, before advising James Morrison to 'give up the fags'.

The event has particular significance as it turned out to be James Brown's last ever televised recording. He died on 25 December 2006.

The 2006 Induction Ceremony took place on 14 November 2006 at Alexandra Palace, and it was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK on November 16, repeated on November 18. It was shown on VH1 in the USA on November 25.

I remember one of JB's friends saying that JB often spoke of Prince and MJ and how he wanted them to carry on the legacy of real music. That comment was stated by one of JB's friends after JB's death during an interview on tv.

You know, after seeing this tape of James Brown at this performance in 1964, I .I don't think anyone could ever copy him. He broke the mold, but it is easy to see how many artists he influenced, and who could blame them? James was a bad motha-shut-your-mouth

Pretty damn funny! I just logged in and found my post about Prince and James Brown was locked and this one was right under it! My post was totally different--about Prince "channeling" Brown and Hendrix for some of his best music. Just speculating on whether P will perform as long as Brown--the "hardest working man" in the music business--right up until the end!
