AMERICA - Full video version - in loving memory of that bad ass - R.I.P. The cause was the release of C&E, the effect was to find something amazing to remind me of how great he can be!. So if you are in the same boat i.e. wondereing what the fuck went wrong! go dig this out [it's out there] , sit back, play it loud and marvel at P - the consumate writer, performer, dancer, guitarist, drummer and band leader all rolled up into 1 amazing 10 minute performance.
Oh P if you ever had the choice to be a superstar or 'grow up' you may wanna play this and decided again!

Can you all stop bitching about Prince? If America was released today, it would be "boring" and "uninspired" song. C&E is not another masterpiece, but it's not a BAD song either.

That was 25 years ago. | |

What's sad is people pining over shit from 30 years ago. Its kid of pathetic. Maybe because of th e super negro syndrome folks are infected with. I mean its ok to appreciate the past and play old music (form any artists ) but to make specific posts about "I hearby declare..." is pathetic lol. I mean this dudes heyday was 20 years ago. Nothing wrong with being fans and still talking about a band and such but basically we are disucssing him as if he were relevant. He isn't. That's not a diss either. Im just sayin'. Its akin to proclaiming " Mick Jagger..your new music ait got shit on Sticky Fingers!! Oh how I remember when you did Miss You in 1978. Now? You're tired and the new stuff blows!"..I mean, no shit.

I swear if the America video clip were released today NOBODY would be dumb enough to describe it as boring or uninspired.

America - is bad ass YES, really great funky track.... I love it
Prince's new songs can't be compared to his old classics, the new is several levels below standard, imo. About the Stones: I have never really liked their music, but I have 3 of Mick Jagger's SOLO albums, She's The Boss, (1985 ?) Primitive Cool, (1987 ?) Wandering Spirit. (1993 ?) Brilliant music I'm not sure what this say about my taste - or - Prince's newer music though, because I don't like Prince 1996-2009 that much. --- [Edited 3/5/10 10:51am] Prince 4Ever.

To keep hoping that youre gonna get a Computer Blue 2011 is silly. Even that Bowie real;ityh shit wasn't all that come on now. prince and them have all been so called 'dead' more than a decade ago so this orignal poster making this post is on som la-la land shit and we still posting and delving into each new song are the people we used to laugh about when we were teens I know its difficult like learning about The Marix and taking the pill but its true

Back in 1985, me and my friends thought this was the track to skip on that album (despite it's cool opening sound effect), and while the video was fun to see for Prince jumping on the drums, it wasn't that exciting at all in all.
Sure it's aged well and more fun to watch now. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Sure it's aged well and more fun to watch now. My feelings exactlty (regarding the live video). However, I liked the track on the album. I felt the live version video was such a mess soundwise etc. and was 'traditonal' music.

Prince may be getting to that point. thankfully, people at least people still seem to care, or at least think he's able, to put out something good. at least i do. but i don't know for how much longer. he put out the stellar LF and MPLSound last year. what's he bothering with this P&G and C&E crap for? or did she shoot his wad with that release and this is all we're gonna get now? it doesn't bode well for his current material if such a hot creative streak is immediately followed up with this dreck.

Prince went to France on August 16, 1985 to start shooting Under The Cherry Moon. The "America" video was filmed on October 27, 1985 at the Theatre de Verdure. He didn't return to America until November 26, 1985.

America video was and is one of the funkiest live performances ever! The live version is killing the studio version. I would love to see the entire concert!

funkyhead, you're comparing a free 5min one-off download, not related to any album or tour, not released to any major broadcaster, to a 10min live appearance that was the official video for a song off a #1 album. That's hardly a fair comparison!
That's like saying "A skirt wearing, four-fingered Kobe Bryant in the off-season sucks compared to the Kobe we all know playing for the Lakers"... Well, duh! But I bet he'd still spank most of us on the basketball court! Most live appearances from any era you choose are going to spank a studio recording. Compare this rendition of "America" to something more recently equivelent... let's say the 2007 ALMA Awards, or the Superbowl appearance, or the "Dreamer" appearance on Leno last year... I'd say those appearances are on-par (given he's 20-something years older). I'd rate these appearances over a lot of studio recordings from his '80s work. wayyyyy too many missing the point here!, take off the purple tinted glasses - this is a case of what he could have been rather than what he has become. In that performance he was fearless and peerless!,be honest with yourselves he has shot his load. P is still a truly great musician and great live BUT the P Lite thing has lasted too long now for it to be a phase before the return of the good stuff. His head is just too lost. Like I said R.I.P. bad ass and thanks for the memories.

Most of us don't have on the "purple tinted glasses". I don't get how you can compare a song written over 20 years ago with a song from today. Prince is in a different place and is a different person. If you don't like it, stop buying his music. Every artist goes through this type of period. Look at people like James Brown. James was on top of the world in the 60s and 70s. By the time the 80s came, James was like every other 50 year old...struggling to survive in an ever-changing music world. I don't think anyone would say "Living in America" was James at his best, but it wasn't "Hot Pants". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
