It would be 2 times less obnoxious.

but then again, he might have had enough above-average songs leftover from it to salvage NPS and Rave shrug

That may be the case (interesting point)...But I just think when it comes down to it Emancipation is a strong project....When I think of weak Prince albums (The Symbol album, Chaos & Disorder, Newpower Soul, Rave, ect...)Emancipation does not come to mind....I love playing some of those songs for friends who never heard it...Usually, they are shocked that they missed Prince songs that were so good...

whofarted That's his best album of the 90's and his best since SOTT.

Personally, I'm glad he put it all on there. If you want to whittle it down to 1 cd or an EP be my guest, but don't deny us sensible people the ability to decide for ourselves what we like.

Having said that, if it were up to me I would have made 2 discs out of it. I would've left the 2nd disc as is. It's perfect. If you look at it song by song, maybe some aren't as good as others from the other discs, but together they work perfectly. I would include the following tracks on my other disc:

Somebody's Somebody
Right Back Here in my Arms
Damned if I Do
White Mansion
In this Bed I Scream
Human Body
Sleep Around
One of Us
The Love We Make
Emancipation (since it's the title track)

I would find this disc enjoyable without expecting it to live up to Purple Rain standards.

As for the rest of Emancipation I can stomach Mr. Happy, Jam of the Year, Slave, Face Down, , Da-da-da, My Computer, I Can't Make You Love Me, and even Courtin Time but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't there. We Gets up, Betcha By Golly Wow, and La,la,la means I love you were really songs that let me know Prince was losing his golden touch. He had put out some songs that maybe weren't very good before but those were just misses when he was trying something new. These songs were BAD and he wasn't even experimenting. disbelief

I really like Emancipation. It was nice to see new material for once and not have material that was from whenever-early-90s-ish-leftovers. It sounded like if Prince made a good solid double-album (like 80-90min lenth) and had a *lot* of b-sides. I think as of right this minute if i were pressed to make a single 80min disc, first I would edit some of the songs. not teh guitar jams..just the ones where the beat ran on too long to make it fit 60min exactly on each disc.

1. Jam Of the Year
2. Face Down
3. Slave
4. One Kiss At A Time
5. White Mansion
6. In This Bed I Scream
7. Somebody's Somebody
8. Courtin' Time
9. Sleep Around
10. Joint 2 Joint
11. I Can't Make U Love Me
12. Sex In The Summer
13. One Of Us
14. La, La, La Means I Love U
15. Emancipation
16. The Holy River
