Apology

Prince,

I have been talking too much shit lately. Sure lotusflow3r wasn't handled well. It pissed a lot of us off. I for one think the website experience (or lack there of) overshadowed a damn good record. But today I was thinking... You could be the kind of artist who flamed out after a few hits and released a new album once every 5-10 years. You ain't (slang intended, brotha). The truth is, you let us witness your development-year after year. You have allowed us to hear you change and experiment and everything in between for the last 30 odd years, releasing album after album at a torrid pace. Have they all been gems? Maybe not (though they have all had their moments). But when I think about that time you let the npgmusicclub sit in the first 5 rows for the ONA tour, when I think about that grainy interview on MTV where you talk about seeing Andre Cymone in a club and giving him "this hit!" (mmm... Dance Electric... aaaaagggh...), when I think about the first time I heard "If I Was Ur Girlfriend", I say to myself, "Shut the f*** up!" You have given me, a fan, such genius over my lifetime (been a fan since I was 3--used to sing along to "I Wanna B Ur Lover" on the radio back in '79) that I have no right to bitch about what ur up to now. I consider anything you put out now and in the future icing on a tasty, moist, grand purple cake. Was lotusflow3r a debacle? I'm going to say yes. It could have been more (and in my opinion was advertised as such), but that is not going to derail me as a fan. I am looking forward to being surprised by you and thrilled (or killed, at least monetarily) by what may come from the vault or from your mind for as long as you choose to release it.

In short, thank u for the grooves past, present, and future. May we live to see the... well you know.
