Just wondering if this song might have done better commercially if it had been released at the same time as MJ's 'Bad'? This might have been a more interesting response to MJ's offer of a duet on 'Bad'.

I know this song frequently gets slated on here as being self-indulgent but I think the rhythm and background synths are really good and knowing P's sense of humour I hope that some of the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek.

Love the lyrics and the groove. The first time I heard it was just a few months after Diamonds and Pearls was released at a private party at Paisley Park. Sexy MF and The Continental were also played the same night. Jan 1992. Those were the days!

Great Song. Not as subtle as SexyMF, if you know what I mean, but loved to listen to this track on headphones. Love the earned arrogance.

That's how I interpret the above lyrics.

Btw, the Guinness logo, the harp, is a sign of David.


I love his arrogance on this song. Arrogance can work sometimes, ya know. Kirstie Alley, in her character did not like it, sure. Don't mean it was wrong.

Lotus is ok, but MNIP is a classic single/ track, imo. I like when Prince is agressive.... imo the album was better than Lotus, cuz the album had 4 brilliant singles.

Chocolate Box and Crimson & Clover were "singles" as well, but not exactly effective.

but yeah at first I kind of liked the song (sans the rapping part)..but as time went on I saw it as sort of a spectacle..and not a good one. I think a lot had to do with others in the "real world"s reaction to it lol. And now in retrospect I see the silliness of it all.

on the demo version he says "on the 7th day He made music." Love the way he just decided to go the whole hog. Backing vocals are great too. He still should have used the line: "My name is Prince and I am funky/My name is prince i'm hung like a donkey!"
