Wet Dream Cousin

Holy fuck this shit is insane! How fucking brilliant are those melodies? The beat is pretty standard but wow, what a tune. Those weird little sounds that flow around the main melody. Then the synths just go apeshit. I don't do drugs, but could you imagine doing LSD on this song? lol

In another way it makes me really sad and super depressed, because I then remember his new material, how this just destroys even the best song on Lotus.

Now I'm sad. Thankfully I always have the old stuff to remember when he mattered.

Yeah but they sound so 80s and outdated. I'll take Dreamer and Dance4me over those titles anyday.

There are whole industries devoted to capturing that "dated" 80s electronic production in virtual form right here and now in 2010, and dozens of "cutting edge" bands that try to ape it.

I'll tell you what sounds dated: Prince using Autotune like every 2 cent no talent R&B D-Bag.

But Prince running timeless analog gear and drum machines through guitar pedals with no-frills mixing is just bad ass. He was like a one man electro garage band in those days, and jams like Wet Dream Cousin were both sick as hell and effortlessly funky.
It's almost like there is an "event horizon" for stupidity - once you fall below that line, you're too stupid to know you're stupid.

no they don't sound outdated, how does MUSIC sound outdated??
I mean a computer from 1970 can be outdated but how can anyone say that about music ie ART
That's like saying "I prefer the Italian painters today, because Michaelangelo and Rafaels work is so outdated"

that music then is very TIMELESS especially the 1999-SOTT music
the other songs like Chocolate is very James Brownish and we all know Prince continues to make songs along that style.

And songs like Wet Dream Cousin with that 50's rock n roll style Prince still makes those Guitar is 1 example of it

outdate...

A Better Place 2 Die

Now there's the stuff right there. If he bulked it up with 17 days, She's always in My Hair, How Come U don't Call me Anymore and Another Lonely Christmas, he could practically have a Purple Rain part 2 without the effort.

never gonna happen... blah blah razz

FunkDr

BlackbeltJones and NouveauDance - you are both SOOO spot on !!
I like Dance4Me - but it does sound like a current song produced by Timbaland - who, in turn, is just trying to sound like Prince in the '80's anyway !!!

Prince could release Purple Music today and it would sound contempary - what, almost 30yrs later - incredible !!!

Great, brilliant music will always be just that - when it is created because that's how the artist wanted it to sound, rather than because that is how they thought it ought to should sound in order to be "contemporary"!

Wet Dream Cousin - just mad genius !! imagine any other "mainstream" superstars creating something like that !!! Never gonna happen!!

music does age,try playing a lady gaga song then a frank sinatra song and tell me Music doesnt age. Now,Prince was ahead of his time, and there are still sum of his 80s songs that sound current or will probably never (darling nikki, moonbeam levels, annie christian).

I'm not sure I understand the analogy, are you saying Frank Sinatra sounds old and Lady GaGa new, or that Frank Sinatra is timeless and Lady GaGa will date? confuse

That's what it is only..the Minneapolis Sound...the basement sounding jem that captured just a JAM at the time. Would have liked to hear the vocals. But Prince could have made Dance 4 Me in 1985 and it wouldve been a hit easily with no questions asked.

lol I annoyed the heck outta my dad with that song. He kept asking me if it was video game music. I would play it loud when I ran on our old treadmill. I can't find it now, 'cause my old compy died and I didn't burn it on a cd....

& it just adds on to their stupidity. When will they realize they are just driving into a brick wall? that their music lacks no longevity? History just has to repeat itself over and over again..

The honest will always prevail though wink

True, but the sound would definately had more hungry Prince to it, like you said that basement sound, rented studio quality that just makes Prince music then so tasty
