The same that it doesn't matter that you used to play to various fight songs, the implication being that your opinion is more correct than another. It's a song, and you apparently can't comprehend that, given your diatribe about Prince playing it and so on and so forth. And then you go on to say you didn't even hear the whole thing. kinda like critiquing a book after reading the first chapter. Again, simple is a matter of perspective. You may like simple things as maybe that's what you can process, but I have yet to read a book that laid out a formula for fight songs with regard to what would make a crowd react. Oh, I just looooove when peoples' arguments are so weak, they have to resort to ad hominem attacks. good lord, I'm not arguing. You simply do not dictate what is or isn't this or that. It's telling that you feel the need to keep expressing your dislike after I asked for a specific response to my post. Most people secure in their position don't feel the need to keep pushing it, they make their point and move on. You simply seem like one of the many others here who seem to simply follow the crowd. So if you feel the need to press the issue, more power to you.

It's not something I'd hear and run to the dance floor for, but it's definitely interesting, in the sense that, for instance, "Strays Of The World" is interesting.
After seeing all of the initial reviews, I decided to wait and forget about what I read until listening to it in it's entirety. The first time I heard it, I had already been bombarded with the negative reviews. On the first listen, I instantly thought to myself that the average pop music fan who wants something like Lets Go Crazy for an American football fight song is simply not going to get this at all. The musical pallette of the average American simply inst broad enough to encompass what they think Prince is (Purple Rain, 1999, Littel Red Corvette) AND this side of Prince. That is no slight to them - they only know what they are fed by maninstream media. However, I expected at least a few hardcore fans who are well versed in the breadth and depth of Prince's genius would have a greater capacity to appreciate the song. It seems I overestimated them. I think it is one of the better songs that Prince has crafted in the last few years. I think this every time I read reviews now. I think it is a matter of people being spoon fed a specific diet to the point that that is all the know. I think there are a few fans out there that are well versed with a greater capacity to appreciate something other than what they expect. There are usually a few here which is why I started this thread, but you see where that has gone.

If you internalize that to mean that someone is calling you simple, then, that is an issue you have to deal with.

I am not into fight songs but I went to a high school whos colors are purple and gold. They should use this song as there new fight song (cause Prince
's fight song is a lot cooler).

Nice It was getting so stifling stinky in here This song is meant for tons of fans to join arms and sway from side to side singing their team on. For that as a target it reaches it goal. It's an easy tune for people to learn. They'll probably cut some words and make a short verse with the common chorus ending in the "The name of the Purple and Gold." We are the Champions, Queen's famous "football" song here in EU, sung by thousands when a team wins, is in essence a very simple tune to play on the piano. It's also slow and easy to pick up vocally and sing. Prince has just invented a new one. In a few years when people have learnt it, the fans will be chanting the song and it will become their trademark. This song will not become one of my favorites, but I like it for two reasons.
It is pure melody, something we haven't seen much of from Prince, especially lately. It is nothing like anything he's ever done before, and he put himself out there once again completely in the face of peoples' expectations. My Legacy

Cheesy, maybe, but P&G is no different from many other songs in that style. Exactly. Given that it was advertised as a "fight song" I wasn't surprised when I heard it. But I definitely like his take on a "fight song" as it were. If I was a player, this "fight song" wouldn't inspire me to fight. It's more of a "lay down and die" song.

I think if this wasn't a "fight" song for a
sports team and was just some odd little Prince song tucked in an album somewhere, it may have been ok. I dunno. Like Wedding Feast. I will admit when I first heard it I was like... We got Wedding Feast, Graffiti Bridge, Arms of Orion,...and now we have this. I posted over here as well because this thread was a bit more...open minded. Just saying. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
