When you force your opinion on people, they might get nasty. Again, if someone loves Lotusflow3r as much as Lovesexy, who are you to say that they are wrong? And vice versa.... [Edited 3/1/10 6:41am] God love you, Skywalker, every single time I say that I dislike something, you instantly bounce back with the 'your perceptions have changed' line. I got into prince with Diamonds and Pearls. I worked my way back as I was working my way forward. Please allow me to have my own opinion. Otherwise, this is just gonna be the same old, very boring and tired fams vs fans argument. If you like your 30th piece of chocolate cake, good for you. but as far as I am concerned, I preferred it when there was more on the menu. Erik [Edited 3/1/10 7:01am] skywalker got DICKED! far as i can tell prince lives in his own here and now and always has. he's still making great music and always has. it may not have the same zing it used to and that could be the result of many things, production and his psychology being just two of them, with only the former being our business.

I still love his music. Every decade has been different for Prince. I think his first two collections of music probably did not get the reaction he wanted. I mean For You, and Prince were totally subtle compared to Dirty Mind and the rest of his eighties music. Neither of those records were really groundbreaking either. They were typical music for the time. To me emancipation, rave, new power soul, and even diamonds and pearls sound more like the prince of 78 and 79. The eighties to me seem like a period he was doing everything he could to make a place in music for himself. He probably knew if he did not become more creative and push the boundaries of his own creativity he would fade into oblivion. I mean those first two records really can't hold you're attention for long. Look at the liner notes to The Gold Experience. They basically say Prince became bored. His music over the past ten years is its own entity. Its hard to say its a lower quality because its so different from his eighties output. I mean THE RBC could be said to be superior to his eighties music. Its much less pop and more musically experimental. Even his new music that sounds closer to his older material is different. Anyway I think he still has it and no one can even begin to guess if or when he will push his own creativity again.

It seems like everytime I turn around, someone is whining about "How great P USED to be" They miss when he was doin this or wearing that or when he was married to....etc. I don't know how he feels personally but It would bring me down because who wants to be reminded of their past when they're always tryin to go forward? I'm so grateful that Prince hasn't givin up lol I'm so glad he's still puttin music out for us and I STILL get excited when I hear about the release of a new album or song or whatever. Still on that fan level. Feel me. Maybe because I'm artist but I'm grateful because there's not too many REAL & DEEP artists like him anymore. Its kinda sad. But We got prince (:
I love For You to LoTUSFLOW3R and from my point of view, it keeps getting better and better. Yes, there is a lil JW school of thought in most of the newer music or shall I say the Rainbow Children era. True, everyone has their favorite music from Prince and their favorite eras also. We are all entitled to like what we like. I wasn't a fan of P's music during the great Purple Rain era or the S.O.T.T. era. I became a fan during the Emancipation era and I had to go back and rediscover the genius of the latter albums/eras. It's all a journey. I look at it like it's what it is: Music or Art and it can play a role in your life in some way or it could just be music you like to listen to when you pass your time. My problem is when people get personal and talk out of their ass. A lot of people show their true colours on a day to day basis when it comes to Prince and his music. I don't and won't defend anyone and I keep in mind that no-one needs to be defended, they can defend themselves. Cool thread ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Prince still makes very good music and I listen to it a lot. The music still reaches high levels, just not as often as in the past. After releasing hundreds of songs through the years, it's understandable that the creativity has decreased a bit. I think it's very impressive after all these years that he still consistently has such a high lowest level.

Hey, I'm not newbie to Prince music, I just think LF is more cohesive and easy listening album I love them both, but I have to be in a certain mood for Lovesexy. For the record, I prefer Lotus to Lovesexy so you're not alone, On topic, overall I love Prince now just as much as I always did. It's just that, like Graycap says, most of us don't go around trying to tell other people what their opinion should be. We understand that different songs mean different things to different people. For the life of me I don't get why there is so much hand-wringing and garment-rending over such a simple concept. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Erik [Edited 3/1/10 7:01am] I wasn't commenting specifically on your likes or dislikes. If you were to say your hate everything Prince has done in even numbered years...that's fine by me, that's your trip to take. [b]My point is this: You say the "dip in quality" of Prince's music is a fact that some won't accept. I say that quality is in the ears of the listener. I don't dispute the fact that people on either side of the idea are nasty top each other. They are. Especially here at the org. I am sorry if you felt like I was/am nasty to you. Again, I just don't agree that everyone views/hears/enjoys Prince's music (or any art) the same way. When it comes to art quality is usually subjective.[/b] And once again I agree completely with Skywalker. One man's meat is another man's poison. When it boils down to brass tacks, those who feel Prince's efforts positively should not be ridiculed. And whilst some experience very recent output as negative or under-par once or twice, that's fine too. But if the negative under-par feeling of Prince music continues, and continues, and continues over years of allegedly, "so many bad albums" then I really feel those people should give up on Prince, find something new and move on. Because if it hasn't changed to their liking by now after all those "bad albums" then hanging around is like banging your head against a brick wall. Don't blame the people who still enjoy the music.
