"For You" SHM-CD Owners - "Pop" @ the beginning of "Crazy You"? Hey fellow audio nerds...
I ripped my Japanese SHM-CD "For You" via dBpoweramp last night. The rip was verified as accurate via the Accuraterip database. I was listening to "Crazy You" via headphones and heard a slight "pop" in the left channel right @ the 2.5 second mark... basically when the guitar comes in. I thought it was the rip or encode error @ first, but it was also on the SHM-CD. This could either be the result of the guitar coming in funny and me never noticing it OR it could be a legit error. I am have NOT listened to my US CD yet to see if it is present there (I am @ work and have no access to it) but I am impatient so I figured I'd see if any other SHM-CD owners noticed this... No headphones though Crap. Well, thanks a million for checking on that... I appreciate it. It's almost like there is an "event horizon" for stupidity - once you fall below that line, you're too stupid to know you're stupid.

Awrighty...
Turns out this "pop" is on the US CD as well. I am amazed I never heard it before... but it just goes to further prove that the SHM-CDs are using the exact same master as the "old" US CDs. I think it is just the way that he hits the wood of the guitar when he plays. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Yeah, I thought it might be something like that as well. My cheap apple earbuds tend to over emphasize the high end of the spectrum to begin with; as I have been listening to a lot of vinyl rips lately, my ears have become hyper attuned to anything that sounds like vinyl surface noise. Funny how I never noticed it before though... I must have heard that song dozens of times over the years.

I'm curious whether a true remaster would remove a pop like this, assuming it's a glitch on the recording and not him hitting the guitar. Some glitches persist throughout many remasters. Take MJ's "Man in the Mirror," for example. There is a glitch at 4:30 (on the Bad Special Edition) that was on HIStory, and on the original CD release.
I can't comment on "For You" or the SHM-CDs, but are two Prince glitches that always stand out in my ears. The first is during "Sign O The Times," during the word died (first verse). The second is in "Kiss" when he says "my love will be your food," during the word "be." I'm curious if the SHM-CDs have those as well.

I just listened a few times to that section and didn't hear any pop. Computer speakers and an mp3 rip of the SHM, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Don't forget the shitty way the whole 1999 album is mastered. All you others say Hell Yea!!
