Edit : PRINCE doesn't hold the record for Top 40 singles - beaten by Elton Isn't it very impressive - and a breaking record... - the fact that Prince has been on the Top 40 pop charts in the UK or US with a single for 17 consecutive years, from "Little Red Corvette" in march 1983, and every single year untill the song "1999" was re-released as a single in december 1999.
I don't believe any other artist has achieved this, I mean even The Beatles wasn't releasing singles in such a long time span, did they? Or the in many ways record breaking Michael Jackson didn't release a single every year? Who else has achieved this, being that successfull and prolific at the same time? My guess is that Prince holds this record: on the Top 40 for 17 years... facts about Prince's single releases - from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...hy#Singles [Edited 3/1/10 3:57am] [Edited 3/1/10 4:16am] Prince 4Ever.

Between the years 1989-2006, Madonna had a hit in either the UK or US Top 40 chart each year.
That's a consecutive run of 17 years. As for Prince, he too holds a consecutive run of 17 years. If there is a record to be held, then I guess you'd have to look at how successful those hits were and in that case I'm afraid the record would belong to Madonna. O+> [Edited 3/1/10 3:28am] O+>

I'm no expert on charts, but I do remember reading somewhere that Elton John holds the record for consecutive years with top40 songs. Can't remember off the top of my head the exact record, but it's something like that... Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Yeah, I edited my post and have also double checked and realised that Madonna did not release a record in 2004! So, despite Madonna completely overshadowing Prince in UK and US Top 40 success, you may be onto something with Prince holding the record for CONSECUTIVE Top 40 hits. Time to check Elton John! Oh thank you Owen/ Toejam, 30... that's a bit more than 17... that's bad, I mean I Like Elton John, but my theory doesn't hold then,
But it's better with Elton to have this record than Madonna.... ps... Now I better make an edit in the thread's title then... [Edited 3/1/10 3:58am] Prince 4Ever.

What about most consecutive years with a top 10 hit?
Prince had at least one top 10 hit every year from 1983 to 1994.
