Some fans will never accept Prince again

this may sound like a strange statement, because they call themselves
fans, but 'tis true

some ppl simply cannot accept Prince for who he has grown into. they still
live in 1984 or around that time.

the reality is we're heading for 2011...Prince is a new person. he will not
say things like: "i sincerely want to fuck the taste out of your mouth" and as he is quoted as saying, fans who miss those lyrics are displaying more of their inner-selves

he is not interested in the glam rock image any more...and does not play the games that the media like to involve themselves in...he is about his music, which he has more than enough of

perhaps, that is his curse...many ppl will love him for his past, rejecting who he is in the present, while others accept him as an evolving being

his past is to be appreciated, nothing wrong with that;
but some people hold it as a continuous litmus test
against his new experiments. makes me think of when he
sings "my only competition is me in the past" and on
Daddy Pop "living in the past when we need to be living
the new"

It takes a unique person to be a Prince fan anyway with all the ups and downs, etc. Folks still love the man and still support him no matter what. Yes even the ones who get on here daily and bitch and moan are still giving him exposure lol If Prince can live with his past then so can his fans. I mean hell if we can get over those assless pants and Tony M. then we love the man no matter what lol

When he stops experimenting (a word he hates, by the way), and starts just creating great music again, then I'm game. I love more than the 1984 Prince. The 90's were just as prolific with a multitude of material in a short amount of time.

Frankly, you're only as good as your last album, and Prince hasn't had a truly mind blowing, and incredible, album in 14 years. "But how can you say that?!" Because I can, that's why. I hold that truth to be self-evident, that not all Prince albums are created equally. Prince has dumbed down his albums musically and, frankly, lyrically. He's just preachy now. He's a pastor without a pulpit. He's his own million man march, and just a cuppa hun'ed people are showing up.

Prince in concert will always hatch a strong and positive reaction from people, myself included. It's his music, since being an alleged free man, that has softened his brain and our funkspectations.

However, with every album, I'm hopeful of something that will once again, make me sit up in my chair and say, "Now THAT is Prince!", whatever "Prince" is/was/will be.

So is the past a litmus test? Fuck yeah it is. People compare to Planet Earth to Musicology, albums that were only a few years apart. Is that holding Prince to his past because some believe PE wasn't nearly as great as Musicology? Prince has repeatedly, HIMSELF, said he was hearkening back to his past sound. He said it about Musicology, and he said it about MPLSound, yet there are fans like you who seem to forget that coming from Prince's lips, and point fingers at other fans who might actually expect Prince to keep his word.

Prince the star has fully taken over Prince the person. Or is it vice versa? Has the personal journey he's chosen to take upon himself only yoked the star of Prince into submission and mediocre music? There used to be a balance, but now - not so much. Prince has forgotten who is, all around. History repeats itself. Critics said he lost his funk in the 80's, and he "showed them". Critics are saying that yet again about him.....I'm just waiting for him to show them up, and prove them wrong.

Still waiting...

Really? This picture suggests just the opposite.

Speaking ill of Prince's present doesn't make the past better and vice versa.

The funny thing is that the present is such a small window compared to the past. Meaning, no matter what Prince you love now, you are going to be loving his past eventually.

I remember when Prince of 1984 and Prince of 1988 seemed worlds apart in terms of sound, image, and theme. Now they are a lot more a like than I initially perceived.

i find people like u to be so sad. Waiting for prince to fulfill your fantasies. You have to be incredibely egocentric to think that Prince is somehow going to cater to your desires. As if the music needs to blow you away to be good. That's so childlike. Adults understand that the world doesn't exist for their benefit. And Prince doesn't exist for u.

I admit, I despise all this autotune crap and cookie cutter approach to new music. Nobody can sing anymore and use that autotune to hide the fact and people are lapping it up. Sadly instead of Proving what a real musician and singer lives for, Prince is now using Autotune to be cool like the talentless kids who make up today's popular music neutral

I'll be old and incomprehensible any day, thanks lol

So now you're going to make it a personal attack? I see how you work, and I'm grateful for knowing what I'm dealing with a dunce when you speak. Thank you.

Since we're making it personal, let's examine your narrow-minded idealisms in your short, and incredibly mentally-limited, response to me.

It's obvious your own ego has gotten in the way of your reading and comprehension skills, as I NEVER said anything about Prince fulfilling any of my "fantasies" (a word I never used, or anything near it, and frankly quite sexual), nor did I state anything about him catering to my "desires" (it's all very sexual with you, isn't it? Get bent, already). I'm a grown man, and I don't need you talking to me about what an adult does in this world. I'm not a late comer to the Prince game. I've been around since 1979, listening and following his music. Following doesn't mean I'm going to be a sheep and Prince is my shepherd. He's not. I'm here because I am an adult and can maneuver through this world quite well, and I've done well for myself. So you can keep hold of your creepy, sexual-tinged, self-involved reactions to yourself. You're contributed nothing. I think for myself, Prince doesn't think for me, nor does everything he serves up end up being a great meal. We're lucky to get a salad and bread sticks these days.

What's more sad is FAMS like you getting all butt hurt because someone like myself doesn't blindly follow Prince and his music. You get all bent out of shape, and make personal attacks to anyone who doesn't agree with you that Prince is still #1. It's a bit hypocritical of you. You accuse me of the very thing you're guilty of. Tsk tsk. Maybe when you're an ADULT, you'll see that, mmkay junior?

Yes, the music does need to blow me away to be great. Mediocre music is....well, mediocre, and no one wants to waste time on that repeatedly. Blowing the listener away doesn't mean it has to be a sonic boom on every song; it means it has to move me, it has to keep me interested, and make me sit up in my chair and take notice. I like a few albums in the past 10 years, but they are so far and few between, that he's yet to have the mojo he had even a few years before that. Prince created his own high bar of standards in songwriting, musical ability and playing and production, so I expect him to stay there. When he falls short, he's less that what he once was in music. It's not about hating, it's about being realistic and having a fucking brain and the balls to say "Sorry dude, that's not that great".

But if you're happy in the beige world of Prince music in the last 10 years, then feel free to set up shop and hang out for a while. The rest of us are tasting the rainbow.

Still waiting...

i find people like u to be so sad. Waiting for prince to fulfill your fantasies. You have to be incredibely egocentric to think that Prince is somehow going to cater to your desires. As if the music needs to blow you away to be good. That's so childlike. Adults understand that the world doesn't exist for their benefit. And Prince doesn't exist for u.

ohh!! Somebody just got told!
