Prince jazz playlist I'm putting together a jazz playlist. My self-imposed rules are (1) studio recordings only and (b) no instrumentals, as that would encompass several great albums eg Madhouse.
My first thoughts are: Love like jazz Strollin' Sexy MF Xtraordinary Somewhere here on earth Damn U So, any thoughts, and how fantastic does this sound??!!! Somewhere Here On Earth

That's quite a signature you've got there, Dave. Somewhere Here On Earth

Besides all the obvious reasons I already gave you, I also like the thought of knowing that a woman cares about her vagina and spends time on her to make it look and feel good for herself and others.

you should include "osaka" and "tokyo". they are both so wonderful
and especially back to back they work so incredibly well. those two were a highlight for me in an already excellent prince era. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I would definitely add Power Fantastic.
A few other possibilities are Condition of the Heart, The Sensual Everafter (there are some spoken vocals in the beginning), and Avalanche. These songs might not be true jazz, but I think the mood and playing on the songs fit. Also, if you put From the Lotus... and ...Back to the Lotus back to back, you have some vocals there as well (that's a bit of a stretch, I know). Cool idea for a compilation, by the way. Out of the tracks suggested so far, I could see the following playlist being something that I'd enjoy: 2morrow When The Lights Go Down Extraordinary The Sensual Everafter Avalanche From the Lotus... and ... Back to the Lotus combination She Spoke To Me Power Fantastic Strollin' Condition of the Heart Somewhere Here on Earth "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

How bout that live version of U Want Me from the Aladdin DVD? And don't forget that Prince included Night in Tunisia as an intro for Strollin for the D+P tour. If you could get a decent quality boot that'd fit in nicely. Take it - like Clarence said:
"I got a million of them - all different U know."

This is all just lite-fm, easy listening pop, hardly jazz. Prince can't even read music. If he tried to compose an actual jazz album and not a fusion piece that was reliant on actual horn players, it would be as big a disaster as Cause and Effect. No hard feelings.

I think Courtin' Time is a great song. For some reason my elder brother loves this song too, although he's doesn't like most of Prince's music. When he first heard it he commented that he really digged the cheeky sound.

I don't really get the sexy mf choice, I guess there's a little jazz bit in it but there's also really bad rapping isn't there?
I would mayb substitute it for love 2 the 9's to steal from the same album @least. just my opinion. Everything else looks great for that kind of mix. [Edited 2/28/10 20:37pm]
