The first Prince song I can remember hearing was "Diamonds and Pearls," when I was a toddler. My Mother loves that song, and played it all the time after that album was released. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

The first I actively remember is Little Red Corvette, I would have been 7 or so.
The frt song I remember liking was Raspberry Beret in 1985, when I was 9, I thought the man in the blue pyjamas on the TV looked strange. But as you know I did not become a fan until late 1991 when I was 15. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I was a late bloomer...
While I heard Prince's songs during his popular 1999 and Purple Rain years, I actually did not become a Prince fan until the Batman movie and album with the crazy face painting and Kim Basinger rumors. I know, I know...fan is short for fanatic, but it's an accurate description for me! I literally became obsessed with his music, went and bought all his previous albums and listened to them night and day. And every time I listen to Electric Chair, I am thankful that this man makes music!

My brother's ex was a fan when I was about 10 years old. She played Prince in the car - I can't remember what it was but I didn't like it
Then my best friends brother was a massive fan around the time of Batman.... I thought he was weird sitting in his room listening to Prince music all day. Then I was his age and pretty much did the same

For me, it all started when I watched the "I would die 4 u" video on television. I watched it with a critical eye because I didn't want to have anything to do with Prince at that time. You see, I was a huge Michael Jackson fan. My older brother, however, liked Prince and would constantly tell me why MJ could not compare to Prince. Oh, the fights we had, the tears I shed... And yet, looking back, I remember that I couldn't help being inexplicably but undeniably drawn to Prince. I tried to fight it, I really tried, but all in vain. (I guess some things are just beyond one's control...) And after all these years, my brother has "moved on" but I still adore Prince !

I must confess that I missed out on the whole Purple Rain era, and earlier, as I thought the frills etc. tooooo much. However, the Parade birthday show aired on Channel 4 in the UK completely won me over. I bored all my family & friends with that for years
As a huge James Brown fan, I couldn't believe that I had missed out on the heir apparent!! I have said, a thousand times, that if I could be someone else for 15 minutes (forget Ron Jeremy etc.) I would pick that concert, from Controversy to Mutiny. World class funky showmanship.

For someone like me born in 1984, Prince like MJ is someone who has just always been there. Its impossible for me to pin point my exact first memory of him, he's just always been on the scene.

In the late seventies,my baby sitter went to her boyfriends house one nite and she sat me on his bar stool while she went with him to the back ofthe house. Her boyfriend had the album Prince on the bar table. All the lights were out in his house, and I wanna be your lover was playing very loudly on his stereo. Atthat young age i thought prince was sexy posing on the front cover with all that hair:)

I must have heard Delirious and 1999 before, but I didn't really get hooked til I heard Lets go Crazy in the 9th or 10th grade. I've always played guitar, and at that time, it was a lot of of metal and hair bands. But I had older sisters, so I grew up on the Isley Brothers, Earth, Wind and Fire, and the Commadors, so when I heard something funky with killer guitar, I ran out and bought the album (cassette). I also loved The Time's Ice Cream Castle. But I've been a big Prince fan ever since.

My older brother (R.I.P.) had a walkman, and he used to place the headphones on my mother's pregnant belly. Apparently, he had a Prince tape in and I started to react.
I don't have a 1st memory of Prince, because his music has always been around. A lot of my early memories are of me running around in my Batman Underoos dancing to Let's Go Crazy or Kiss. I distinctly remember sitting on the floor of my bedroom when I was around 5 or 6 with my Sesame Street record player watching the record going around and around, and staring at the Purple Rain album cover. My first memory of Prince comes from working in a wreck-a-stow. Yeah, and when I heard that line in under the cherry moon I laughed out loud. I heard "Soft and wet" and "For You". Asked my then boss to find out from the distributors about posters and "Prince" was born in New Orleans,La. at Jamm's Records on the corner of Broad and St.Bernard. I met him at the Superdome in 1988,and he truly smells divine.I'll always remember that.

My first memory of Prince and the moment I became a Prince fan 4 life are 2 different things. My first memory of him was sitting on my mother's lap and watching him on Solid Gold lip syncing to Little Red Corvette. It wasn't till a year and a half later (June 18, 1984) that I woke up in the middle of the night to hear my brothers and sisters in the living room watching Hot Tracks when I got up in time to see the video to Let's Go Crazy. After the video ended I declared out loud "he's my favorite" and he has been ever since. I was 8 at the time. Christopher damn!

My fondest? memory is disobeying my parents by listening to the monologue at the end of 'Automatic' I was in '84 and I was told that I couldn't listen to any of their Prince albums. So, I went downstairs and tested how low could I have the volume on and still be able to hear the music. When I found a suitable volume, I put my ear to the speaker. That weekend, I asked my aunt what it was to have the taste F*^ked out of your mouth. My innocence was taken at that moment and I dumped Michael Jackson.
Although my question wasn't answered, she kept it between us.
