Landonfunkmonkey said: It's funny how Chocolate box was picked out by the critics as one of the stronger songs on MPLSound but some orgers seemed hell bent on making it the Jughead of the 00's. For me it's a career highlight. Oh please. If anyone signaled out Chocolate Box as a highlight it was only by default. It's an embarrassing, derivative piece of synthetic slop. The lyrics are as trite and vapid as something you'd find on a Miley Cyrus record; in fact, I imagine Miley Cyrus would have looked at those lyrics and told her manager "I can't sing this shit." The former Rude Boy has morphed into a Congenial Grandfather and now instead of lascivious come ons within a musical universe so unique to its creator that listening to it was like entering a different world, he's now proffering a box of chocolates, rap-lite and a musical backdrop so thin you can the trends he's painfully chasing through it. Anyone who thinks this latest song is going to be anything more than a didactic piece of disposable pomp is going to be sorely disappointed. It will have capable guitar work, a meandering melody and curmudgeonly lyrics more fitting for the pulpit than the pop stage. No hard feelings.

Those that haven't enjoyed his music for years can't seem to accept that there are fans that still get alot of enjoyment out of the music still. And then there are alot of people of think those that berate the recent output are just negative haters. I think 3121/Planet Earth/ Lotusflower and MPLSound are brilliant albums I love them and no one is going to convince me they're crap, but I accept there are some fans that just don't like them, thats fair enough, it's when they seem to suggest that I'm somehow fooling myself into thinking they're great thats when it get's annoying, and I'm sure it is the other way round. Personally I'm really looking forward to some new stuff as since 2006 I think he's been on fire (Purple And Gold is being conveniently forgotten for the purpose of this post). [Edited 2/24/10 12:33pm] [Edited 2/24/10 12:49pm] Exactly! I think "Chocolate Box" is as good as any Prince in the studio alone track. That could have easily fit on the 1999,Batman or Controversy Album. But people on her destroy it... It aint chocolate in the box 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Cause & Effect
wHat a great title, considering the current situation. Cause: not doing a gig with 5K thousand tickets sold. Effect: pissng off a large percentage of your fanbase and some lawyers. Pay the price of your actions Prince. [Edited 2/24/10 16:53pm] "My God it's full of Stars"

The Jessie Johnson Cause and Effect is the name of an album not any songs as far as I know. He isnt the one responsible for Verbal Penetration I ran across this while doing some Jesse Johnson research on if I could find the songs he did for a movie soundtrack. I am at a loss for the name of the movie. It was in the 90's I believe. The songs werent on the actual soundtrack but playing in the movie.
As for this Friday and Prince's new song I am very excited to hear what he has to offer.

Mindflux said: fielder said: Perhaps Prince instead of a song could give a big enough donation that this station could stop sucking money out of the public tax fund so we could it use for some real causes. I'm sure all the hungry people in Minneapolis feel better going to bed hungry but getting to listen to some new music. I'm sure the director will respond that hardly any (percentage wise) comes from public sources but that is not the point.
Perhaps if people stopped relying on someone else doing something about it, you wouldn't have the situation in the first place? Actually there is nothing that can be done because no matter how much is donated public tv and public radio will NEVER stop asking for money even though there time has come and gone.

I'm looking forward to this.
I love both "Dreamer" and "Colonized Mind", I love "Back To The Lotus" To me as good as anything he has ever released. That's a mighty compliment. To me right now, he seems to be more in tune with the times with his rocker side, for as much as i love his funky side, he has been Sir Nose Devoid of Funk for 20 some years. I love funk, but to me funk is Parliament, its Funkadelic, Its JB, it's 80's Prince, Its loud, crazy, sweaty and nasty.....and in some ways witty. I would be charitable to call MplSound and most of his 90's work childish and dimwitted, ...so to me, for Prince to release a rocker on a rock station is a good sign. He seems to be more Ying & Yang than usual lately. M-sound & Lotus, now Purple & Gold and another rocker. Maybe he does suffer from some multiple personality disorder, because if i didn't know, I would be hard pressed to have guessed that the dimwit that made MplSound and Lotus were the same dude, [Edited 2/24/10 17:53pm]

I'll wait to hear it before I overanaylze it to death.
Nice to know he's still making music since he doesn't have to anymore. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
