Prince Symbol on TV Tomorrow - Not Sure What It Is

Sunday night on HD Theater channel, there's a show called Street Customs. It's on at 8 p.m.

I'm telling you this, because I saw a random preview for the show, and these two guys walked into the office of the President of Monster Cable to talk about customizing his car for something.

In the guy's office is a HUGE frame of the prince symbol. It's not a gold record award or anything like that (cuz God knows he hasn't had any in a coon's age). I have no idea what's in this frame. There are other smaller framed pictures within the big frame. It had a purple background, and the symbol was in a black circle, and was probably 15" or so in diameter.

There was a preview of the show today and it's how I caught it. I thought "Hmm, something is familiar in that shot!" (It went by quickly.) So I rewound the TV and saw it. I've just no idea what it is in there.

I thought I'd let folks know to catch it. Maybe someone could figure it out.

sounds like one of those tambourines and maybe some other schwag in a frame. I'm betting Monster Cable has some sort of sponsorship deal with Prince? That would make it all make sense.

It's not a tambourine. It's WAY too big for that, and it's flat anyway. They could have done the cable work for the Musicology Tour or something, and he sent them that.

I regularly watch Street Customs, so this is kinda cool. The premise of this particular show is that the crew has to be able to fit a Segway into the trunk of a Bentley.

Yup. Dave is a friend of mine, and he did the Paisley Park stuff a while back.

This work at Paisley was at least 6 or 7 years ago... most of it anyway. Not sure exactly when the Monster cable was put it.

Who said "recent" meant in the last six months? I cut and pasted that from Monster Cable's site, but who knows when it was written. It could have been 5 years ago.

Exactly...."recent" could be anything. It all depends when that blurb was written and put on the Monster Cable site.

M.C. is a dishonest business anyway, and I have no plans to ever support them, or their overpriced product.

As Gio pointed out, the renovations with the Monster wiring was years ago, actually before 3121 if I recall correctly.

What do you know about Monster being dishonest? I'm quite curious. I've used plenty of their products in the past but have switched to more affordable and just as good, or better alternatives.

Here's one story, that is indicative of many.

If it wasn't already perfectly clear by now that Monster Cable's cables aren't really worth the price (or any price above the cost ...oat-hanger), and that they're only using those bloated markups to perpetuate their reputation as money-grubbing lawsuit-happy snakeoil peddlers, we'd call your attention to their latest target: Monster Mini Golf, a chain of glow-in-the-dark mini-golf courses based out of Rhode Island. Apparently Monster Cable claims that the Monster Mini Golf brand is confusing to the public and dilute their trademark. Of course, this suit isn't really any more absurd than their suits against Monster.com, the Chicago Bears (aka the "Monsters of the Midway"), or the Pixar film Monsters, Inc. -- that is to say, it's equally and completely ridiculous. But hey, when you're making 1000%+ margin on merch, you can only swim in entire pools of liquid gold so long before seeking out the thrill only found in wasting taxpayer dollars on frivolous lawsuits.

Hey, so here's an idea: perhaps everyone should just stop buying anything made by Monster Cable. That or set up a dummy corporation with the word "monster" in the name, since you're basically guaranteed they'll spin their wheels serving a summons for merely existing. (Don't worry, you'll have limited personal liability.) You pick, whatever's easier.

[Thanks, Jason; also, here's the Monster Mini Golf site]

Here's another:

Monster Cable's got a pretty shady history for a variety of reasons, but high up on the list is the company's notoriously aggressive legal team, which routinely threatens companies with litigation if they don't pay license fees or otherwise settle over trivial matters. Well, in an ironic turnabout, it looks like Monster's lawyers didn't know what they were in for when they sent a cease-and-desist letter to EHD favorite Blue Jeans Cable recently: the company's founder, Kurt Denke, was a federal litigator for nearly twenty years, and has no intention of backing down. He's making his reply to Monster public, and while it's essentially very similar to what any company's lawyer would have written up in response, Kurt doesn't have to be nearly as polite, which makes it a pretty fun read. Monster's basically saying that Blue Jeans Cable is using connectors that are too similar to Monster's, and Kurt does a pretty good job of taking them to task for being bullies -- all while pointing out that even if they do win, they won't get much, and he'll have made life very difficult in the meantime. Full letter, chuckles included, at the read link.

I just refuse to support businesses that are bullies. I had heard of the Mini Golf story before, but it came up the other day while talking to a friend about this particular episode of Street Customs. He reminded me of Monster's bullying, and LYING, tactics. It's one thing to save face a little bit, but when you are going after a fucking miniature golf business, it's just wrong as all fuck.

I believe it was probably. Just a nice token of the hard work (along with the massive and over-inflated bill Monster provided Paisley Park, LLC, I'm sure).

Interesting indeed. The coat hanger link is hilarious. Yeah, screw Monster if they're going to conduct business like that. Ridiculous.

I just laid some big brown monster cable in the toilet. I hope they don't sue me.
