Imagine this... Imagine if Prince were 17 today and he decided to try out for American Idol. I was thinking today about how poor most of the guitar playing is on AI. Then, I started to imagine if Prince went on there as a young man and just blew these people away. What do you think he would have done as a 17 year old on AI? What songs would he have sung? I'm Yours? What would he have worn? Would he have played multiple instruments or just one? Which one? What kind of show would he have put on? How would he have been received? What would Simon, Paula or Randy have said? OR would they have just sat there with their mouths open? Help me paint a picture of this. It's kind of fun if you really start thinking about it.

They would drink Prince dry if you know what I mean (slurp)! Prince would kill them by playing a different instrument every time he performed and his sheer cockiness would have Simon be his bitch! __________________________________________________

He'd be knocked out pretty early I think. He wouldn't kiss anybody's ass like the majority of the kids on there do. He'd be the one that gets the infamous "you're extremely talented, but you're just not what this show's looking for" line. [Edited 2/19/10 20:20pm] Now toejam you know you got to kiss ass at first then when you make it big you don't have to. Oh and Prince would play his guitar and they will tell him. "Your off to Hollywood" and Prince would still be playng. Until they call Security.. But he still got the yellow slip of paper.. [Edited 2/19/10 20:39pm]

he'll get to aggravated in having to chose other artist's songs to sing nonsense, when he'd be rather creating his own tunes
& he's more true and connecting to himself, not America but he'll hold the curious ones attention and would deff intrigue "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

If Prince were 17 y/o today he'd be an entirely different Prince than the one in the 70's. Undoubtedly, he'd be a gifted musician but he would've grown up in the age of hip hop and post grunge and alternative. It would be interesting to see or rather hear would he'd be doing.

American Idol actually takes away from the artist, it seems like it's just simply for the exposure...but of course if he was on American Idol of all shows it would be the only reason I'd watch it...yet I still don't believe that he would even come close to what he is if he had started now. "Raow Raow. Meow Moaw."

Now toejam you know you got to kiss ass at first then when you make it big you don't have to. Don't forget that when Prince was still in his teens he turned down a lot of major labels because they wouldn't allow him to produce his own first album. WB were the only ones that took that chance. Anyone who knows anything about the record business knows that if you win American Idol, you're basically contracted to play their game... Anyone who knows anything about the record business knows that if you win American Idol, you're basically contracted to play their game... I was imagine that Prince really want to be at "American Idol",because he was there. And knowing that he really want to make in the biz.. We know those kids are being "programmed" to lay out the "record companies" crap, but thats how its run now. When Prince appeared on "Idol" his performance was good as expected. But Simon was pissed at Prince because after the performance he walked out. He said that he is not an "Idol"the kids really wanted to talk to him. Well we know that was great for Prince not to be an "IDOL". So Mr. toejam of Peach & Black podcast that I LIKE TO LISTEN TO. If he wanted to make it now he had to played by their rules. And when he gets big enough then he can leave. Remember I respect Prince and his "independence" and how he fought over the "records companies" to help other artist. But as long as their are kids and their parents they can be sucker into "contacts" they will... That's what I meant in my post. toejam you know you got to kiss ass at first then when you make it big you don't have to. My statements are bold sometimes. Please take them light at heart. That's what I'm talking about. Can you imagine Prince at 17...Today, a complete unknown, going on to American Idol or any other platform like that, and performing I'm Yours especially with the guitar solos, etc. It would blow people away. Of course, xpertluva had an interesting perspective with regard to the current music influence on a 17 yr old Prince of today. I'm Yourswas greatly influenced by 70's type music.

maybe a curtis mayfield song
or 'smooth' with the carlos santana guitar but hes a very independent and simon cowell seems to like 'singers' be a bit more ''lick the dog shit off of my shoe'' dependant so he might not get very far on a shit show like AI ''now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, a fanatical criminal''
