What do you think is Prince's most "filler free" album? ...the one you can play non-stop all the way through? For me its Parade. If it wasn't for Jughead I'd say Diamopnds and Pearls. I guess another good question would be. Which album would have been perfect if he had left "blank" off the album?

1999 is largely filler-free, though I don't like "Something In the Water" PURPLE RAIN is absolutely filler-free. PARADE is fantastic. I wouldn't change any of its contents, but "Do U Lie?" is my least favorite tune. BATMAN can do without "Lemon Crush" GRAFITTI BRIDGE can do without "New Power Generation" THE GOLD EXPERIENCE is filler-free for me. If I had my choice, I would delete "Dolphin" in favor of "Days Of Wild" or "Ripopgodazippa" COME I love from beginning to end. I have no complaints about this much-maligned album. AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY needs an edited version of "Condition of the Heart." All the endless wailing makes me cringe. SIGN O' THE TIMES is perfect, though I could do without "It" (yet, I love the concert movie rendition). LOVESEXY to me is better without "Dance On"

ATWIAD - leave the tag ending off "Temptation" (but I did an edit of that so I don't have to hear it)
Graffiti Bridge - Take out the associated artist stuff, and it's a much stronger album. Also, the title track, and NPG part 2, can disappear Gold Experience - by far my favorite album, but "Shy" has to go. In fact, I never ripped it to my harddrive anyway, so I never think about it. Exodus - the segues Emancipation - The Plan D&P - Jughead (this probably goes without saying), but I also have my Tony M. free edits of the other tracks, and enjoy the album a LOT more. I was never warm to this album at first. The Rainbow Children - cut everything but "Wedding Feast" - I can do without Arrogance 3121 - Te Amo Corazon. It's just bland in comparison Planet Earth - another favorite album, but leave off "Lion of Judah" I don't listen to Lotus/MPLS enough to give a shit.

I can play most of Ps albums all the way through, but to be honest Purple Rain has to be the most well-conceived album of Prince's career. Even the b-sides wouldn't have been filler on the LP, with the exception of another Lonely Christmas.
I would love to say Sign O The Times is filler-free, but U Got The Look, while enjoyable, was a last-minute addition that was b-side material. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I really think DIRTY MIND is filler free, every track can be listened to from the last one, the songs When U r mine, Gotta broken heart again and Partyup arrive when you feel raunched out by the previous tracks, and its a good sex and seriousness balance.
CONTROVERSY, Less so as Ronnie talk to Russia and Annie Christian are filler 1999, is filler free, but some of the tracks like Automatic and Lady Cab Driver/Critics do warble on and on. PURPLE RAIN, is filler free, despite being a hit, its a very solid, well made album where everything is reduced to the minimum (Rare in a Prince album) ATWIAD I feel that Tambourine, The Ladder, America and Temptation are filler, the rest makes up for it, especially the Title track and Condition of the heart. PARADE, Has no filler SOTT Has no filler either, but some tracks showcase Prince's tendency to wibble on. All the Albums Lovesexy onwards (Including Black have filler unfortunately, although I agree Pruning GB and Symbol could produce a focussed filler free record like one of his 80s classics). COME too if one pruned out Papa/Orgasm and the dreadful solo, the rest is top draw material, almost a mid nineties remake of Dirty Mind. I agree the album is much derided, but was close to being his best of the 90s. [Edited 2/19/10 1:21am] So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

1.)Purple Rain
2.)1999 3.)Around the World in a Day * I like Tempations and the Bsides like PR are off the chain, but if the ending of Tempation was an instrumental it would be hot 4.)Parade 5.)Dirty Mind as much as I love SOTT: Play In the Sunshine, It, Hot Thang, U Got the Look I like but could have easily been B sides

Tempations ending had too much SIGN O' THE TIMES is perfect, though I could do without "It" (yet, I love the concert movie rendition). * I like the nasty of It, and the guitar solo, I wish it had linn use something like All the Critics LOVESEXY to me is better without "Dance On" * Dance On would have been a good 3rd Bside

I would love to say [b]Sign O The Times is filler-free, but U Got The Look, while enjoyable, was a last-minute addition that was b-side material. His best CD ever every track a winner, the CD just a collection of great songs which sit in that place between funk/soul/pop/rock/jazz/hip-hop a mixture of technological and tradional music methods....lyrics are smart, funny, sexy... he's got them all in this CD foresure! A CD ahead of it's times but also timeless... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

Purple Rain. Perfection.
Dirty Mind. Even though I don't care for "Sister", I still feel like it belongs on the album. Batman. It's obviously not his best album, but all the songs work. Each track had a purpose. Around the World In A Day. Solid album. Everything just works so nicely. Come If the title track was edited after about 5 minutes, and "Orgasm" wasn't on there, it would be even better. [Edited 2/19/10 13:41pm] How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

I just wish some of those songs would have worked into the movie more. Prince put the lyrics in the liner notes as coming from any particular character. There were good opportunities to put "Vicki Waiting" in there (like in the apartment scene w/ Bruce Wayne and Joker when Bruce got shot and then disappeared - it could have been playing on the radio or something instead of Joker bringing his boom box). The only song that should not have been in the movie was "Batdance" of course, but it would have made for a great ending credits song instead of "Scandalous".

i agree that Dance On is the weakest song on the Lovesexy album, This is the only song on the whole album which sounds dated today. The rest is timeless
Graffiti Bridge - lose the associated artist stuff, especially round & round. The time's contributions should be on Pandemonium Purple Rain, 1999, ATWIAD - all no filler what so ever. I can't believe someone doesn't like Something in the water - but each to their own. Plus, i really like 90% of Lotusflow3r. I could lose 77 Beverly Park, but add Crimson & Clover to the download version - no filler then mrdlf

I would love to say [b]Sign O The Times is filler-free, but U Got The Look, while enjoyable, was a last-minute addition that was b-side material. A CD ahead of it's times but also timeless... I don't disagree that Sign O The Times was Prince's high-water mark, as it's actually my favorite album. The breadth of genres and sheer amount of now classic songs make SOTT untouchable. But U Got The Look somehow doesn't fit this collection. It was (I think) the last song recorded, while most of the others had been around long enough to survive 2 other shelved albums. Prince didn't have time to reconsider inclusion of U Got The Look and it shows. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

CDs I think are his best , Sign O The Times, Prince (the 2nd album), Parade, ATWIAD.... many other excellent releases without filler.

I don't look at any of Prince's albums as having, "filler," songs. I can say that there are 4 or 5 songs since 1978, that I could 4get about...however, I still agree with Prince.
"For You," is a perfect record. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
