I just rediscovered "Gold Nigga", the Album I just rediscovered "Gold Nigga", the first album by the NPG. OK, Tony M. is on it, so some of you might not like it just for that reason. But, i´s a very funky, cool and smooth album! "Johnny" is really outstanding, "Oilcan" is as funky as it can get, "Guess Who´s Knockin´" and "Black MF" are just great. I will always remember the NPG opening for Prince on the "Act II"-Tour with those songs. What are your thoughts? See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

The official tracklisting for Goold Nigga is this: Goldnigga Part 1 Guess Who's Knockin' Oilcan Segue Deuce & A Quarter Segue Black MF In The House Goldnigga Part 2 Goldie's Parade Segue 2gether Segue Call The Law Johnny Segue Goldnigga Part 3 2gether was also released as a single. Some of the songs were often performed during the "Act II"-Tour in 1993. The NPG played as support act on this tour, but songs were also played during "normal" shows and aftershows See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

I forgot about that! They opened for Prince at the Wembley Arena gig in '93. Then at the end they came on for Sacrifice of Victor and the game boys covered Prince in a big white sheet and carried him off over their heads. This was when he was "killing off" Prince. Did they open for Prince on the whole tour because they didn't at the Wembley Stadium show a few weeks earlier? The aftershow was at Bagleys which I think is the Sacrifice of Victor video. Didn't enjoy it apart from the encore of Come-Endorphinmachine-Peach.

They opened all the shows on the "Rock over Germany"-Festival, it was in September 1993, I think, Wembley was later. "Guess Who´s Knockin´" is a faster funky song with the chorus: "Guess who´s knockin at the door. Who´s that ringing the bell?" Tony sings. See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

Great album. I take it you've got the rarer original version.

I don't know why so many people hate Tony M and the gameboyz, they were okay for the time. In fact, they were innovative - gangsta rapping way before it was big like now. After all, they were gonna 'gangk' any clowns who weren't down with what they were putting down.
I loved the clothes style from the Diamond & Pearls to 'Symbol' era, gangster glam, it was really colourful and over the top.

One of MY 3 out of 10 favorite PRINCE cds
along WITH The Black Album & Exodus. YES Gold nigga ='s Another FUNK & LOL CDs ~~~ Another great cd containing GREAT segues. I especially like towards the end of the cd where someone says~ "coming directly...from paisley" THEN, another voice says "watch your step, your slippin"... as to hide the fact of just who & where this artist is. If you have not heard this cd, do yourself a favor.. CHECK IT OUT! Fish

A highly underrated album. One of the best things Prince did in the nineties.
. "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I don't know the song "Guess Who´s Knockin´" You'll have to fill me in on that one. I've never heard "Guess Who's Knockin" either, since my copy was bought late as well. The song appeared on early pressings of the CD (1993),but was quickly removed because of copyright issues (the song apparently uses lines from the 1976 Paul McCartney & Wings song "Let Em In"). To those of you who have the rare CD with this song on it,could you please describe it for us?

I bought it at the NPG Store in Camden, London in 1994 along with the single "2gether". See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

The song is 3.25 Minutes long. Is a very groovy, cool dance song, not too fast. The verses are sung by more than one guy. The chorus goes "Who´s that knocking at the door?, Who´s that ringing the bell?". The song starts with someone knocking at a door and an short conversation between Tony and the knocker. Some funky horns in the background during the song and an electric guitar-sample as well as some nice precussion. Song is in the spirit of "horny pony" and "jughead". See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

oh, and yes, the chorus is indeed stolen from the McCartney tune. It´s exactly the same. See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...
