On the org some people seem to think that this is a great, funky album and even include it in their top 5, but most seem to say that this was his first step down in the direction of the "even worse" Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

Personally, I think Rave is far better.
Newpower Soul is take-it-or-leave-it for me.
Definately not on my rotation.

The fact that someone likes this record tells you just how much Prince has lowered the bar on his music. I do not have anything major against this record, but compared to what he is capable of, this is a crap record (as is most of his music over the past 10 years). He used to put out full albums of excellent songs and now you have to hunt for a few good moments within an album. I am not hating on him... he just has not lived up to his musical potential over the past few years.

I'm not so sure AWID and LoveSexy ....great albums ...i don't think so ...Like all Prince music it really is a take it or leave it. He just produces music i don't think he ever sets out to write a album like most other artist ...I really don't know how he selects tracks as he sees it as just one big body of work ....i guess.. biggrin
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

I like this album more than Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth. Maybe that's not saying much, but it's something.

Part of what I like is it captured the Jam of the Year tour feeling. When I saw him in 1998, he played parts or all of these songs, including Mad Sex, I Like Funky Music, Push it Up, and seemed to make up Freaks on This Side (my side, of course) on the spot that night.

When I hear the songs it takes me back there. It's a fun, funky album, with a few moments that I am not crazy about, like If U Love Somebody in particular.

It's 'When U Love Somebody' . . . .
Shows how much you care . . . . .

lol

oh, no! I'm slipping lol

Even the poorer songs on this album are better than his recent stuff.
