Prince could satisfiy the demand of this stuff simply by cleaning up the quality (as much as possible) and releasing it.

Look: You don't have a hordes of people trying to bootleg The Black Album and "Crystal Ball" anymore.

Prince nullified the demand and made $$$$ off of this stuff.

What perplexes me is his reluctance to release even his official stuff. I mean, Prince and The Revolution: LIVE is not officially released on DVD? Wtf?

What kind of a world do we live in where Hall and Oates have more live DVD's available to their fans than Prince does?

its really a defense of him, its more showing that he doesnt have the power over WB stuff that people think he does, WB has ripped down alot of stuff besides Prince.

As far as the ownership thing it goes both ways, i mean we all preach here about dont sign with a label, which is all fine and a great idea, but if you are on your own and say a website is allowing your stuff to be downloaded for free, now your the one that is not getting paid, do you just let it all go and screw it, or do you have it taken down, i mean as an indie artist you cant afford to lose a dime.

Indie artist? falloff

Prince is a MULTI MILLIONAIRE. lol

And not giving away everything he worked on for free made him that rich and will keep him that rich. Nobody on earth would work for 30 years without wanting to be paid for that work.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Being an Indie artist has nothing to do with how much $$$$ you do, or don't have.

Usually, the term refers to how an artist is promoted, their label (or lack therof), or style of music.

As i have said before Prince has no control over the WB stuff, WB has pulled alot of their artists, including a-Ha, just noticed this when researching for a "Fanmade" video for "Soft Rains of APril" an album cut from their second album, done as a tribute to them, well usually when you do this, the label can just remove the music, the label has even removed their images in this video. So think again people who "think prince is the almighty and can make things go away with a wave of a wand, or threat of a lawsuit", if a-ha is getting taken down (and they encourage things like youtube and others) than WB can really do a number on most of its artists.

I think your assuming quite a lot.

No proof that Prince does or dosnt do anything.

Next pointless thread please.....

My mate says he once saw Prince eat an apple on a escalator,, for all those who thought he didnt eat on escalators think again!

I think they (all) have control of recorded music. Dialog and un-released Live performances seem to be fair game. If you can purchase it, you can't upload.
IMO.

i never quite understood the whole Warner thing. Prince was well aware of the details of the contract. I mean come on, he had been with them 13 years at that point. The only difference was, it was the BIGGEST RECORD DEAL EVER SIGNED at the time. Suddenly AFTER signing it, he decides he doesnt like it? I just dont get it. Im sure if he would have talked it out with WB before he signed it, they could have come to some kind of agreement that would have made both parties happy.

Yes Indie as in independent...has nothing at all to do with a dollar amount. He is independent and expects, rightfully so, to be paid for his work. I have a confession, so do I and everyone I know for that matter. I'm glad to hear you do everything for free, that's very generous of you.
