When I first watched Purple Rain, I kept rewinding and watching that performance.
It's definitely one of his best songs & one of my faves!

This was the first track off of Purple Rain to grab me and make into the fan that I am today. Even to this day it's one of his best songs. Timeless and perfect. The live versions always get me too despite all the variations over the years.

It's impossible to tire of this song...

Ok so I am a younger P fan. So this movie makes me laugh because in the 7th grade I had this friend and he would quote this movie in class and it would make me laugh. He was little and had big eyes like Prince so the fact that he would act this movie out and try to get girls to play parts with him was so funny and this was his favorite part to act out in class. If he found one of the girls to be pretty he would go into the scream part and it just hurt my face so bad because it was just funny. I love this movie and this song. Girls don't cha just wanna scream I want U.....lol.

This song is a diamond and pearl wrapped into one.

It's the first guitar solo I ever figured out on my own, so it will always be special to me!

Purple Rain was the first album I listened to so this was one of the first songs I heard by Prince & to be honest I was quite freaked out by his falsetto in this song, when he goes "looooo0o0o0o0o0ose baby" I was just like

Needless to say it grew on me though

wen i found out that when doves cry was part of a movie i instantly borrowed it from a friend and fell in love wit it beautiful ones and darling nikki were the ones that stood out and man did you hear how high pitched his screeching can go? amazing

An absolute classic.Love that part of the movie.The whole album is incredible.

In 1985 I used to listen to this song over nd over in my walkman. I would rewind and rewind.

It does hold up really well. The arrangement is just of control... To this day, musically I canever keep track of wht is going on with all the synth and keyboard parts. There's taht littel piano in the background and then at the end all those long synth filter sweeps. Listening to some rehearsals of it from backin the day are kind of funny, cause Lisa didn't quite have the hang of the sweep patches and they just kind of fall all over the place.


But really this song is just a masterpiece of composition, drama and arrangement construction. Prince never is ambitious like this any more.

I am not a big fan of the ballads, but this is my favorite.
