it's like a rebuke/rebuttal to The Hits The B-Sides. Similar pose, affiliation with plants, but with a homemade car boot/trunk distribution ethos.

I have not liked any of his covers after Lovesexy. They all look kinda cheap, kitschy. Just as the creativity slowly went out of the music, so did the quality of the covers went down.

The picture of P is good, but the background and typography are crap. However, the inside of the booklet that comes with the album is really good. Why wasn't the cover up to the same standard and in the same style? (Plus, that picture works so much better with a dark background, or a plain white one) [Edited 2/15/10 16:22pm] agree with all the above the FONT is horrible and small the background is a snap of the outside of Paisley where the Ivy was growing nothing 2 do with anything. 7 thaCONcept

Horrible artwork and I don't like the album. Its the only album by Prince I cant listen 2 anymore Welcome 2 The Dawn

nope, it's total garbage and like the CD is just a lazy, disposable effort with no sense of pride. Likewise the cover for 3121 and Planet Earth. LF was a bit of an improvement but not much better.

The cover was almost as boring as the music on the album... I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

As an artist and painter, I would love to do a cover for a Prince album.
In fact, Prince actually has the opportunity to utilize the subscribers on lotusflow3r.com. Make them listen to 4-5 streamed songs online. Give 'em a month to upload an idea or finished concept to a new cover. Have a vote, smack it on the package of the new record, and boom - everybody's happy. Prince would build himself a community, where the fans feel special, rather than hunted down, and he'd made up for some of the dissapointment over lotusflow3r.com, and any debate about the resulting cover could be answered with: "If ya didn't vote you can't complain". Anyway .. I know, Prince ain't big on fan involvement. It could just be cool if he took notes from NIN and Radiohead (and do THEY have critcal, cynical fans? You bet!).

That cover is awful... The pic, the fonts/typography...
People often suggest Prince made better albums when on a major label (WB), with some quality control and professional A&R-assistance. IMO that theory would definetly apply to the album artwork as well...

Lotus..... fell off the bed and broke da head... it sux. I think for Prince, the Sucky album covers come with good music, and the over elaborate covers mean the album will suck. I think we could almost make this a standard rule of thumb. (sott is the exception to this of course) We are all so full of here
