Train

Recently, I got hip to "Train". Love the song. It sounds like it was written early in Prince's career. It reminds me of music from Prince 2nd album. I read about the song years ago. Does anyone know if this one was written for the Dream Factory/Crystal Ball or was it a song Prince wrote before his career took off. thanks

"Train" was recorded July 7, 1986 at his then-new home studio. At one point, it made the final configuration of Dream Factory, being track #3 on the 2 LP set. It did not make it onto the Crystal Ball final configuration.

The song was later put on Mavis Staples' Times Waits For No One album, and is pretty much the same track as Prince's, although there are a few minor differences. Some of the mix was readjusted, and it has a "cleaner" sound to it. Prince's version has a tad more "chug-a-lug-train" feel to it.

Mavis's version is quite good actually. It misses the backing vox though, just uses an echo instead. Great song in my opinion, can't help singing along.

I was just listening to that song on Friday... don't know what made me decide to randomly choose it. music

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

His vocals on that one always reminds me of this 1976-1979 years

the horns fit perfectly on that one

You know, I never really cared for that song, something about it never grabbed me. In my opinion, I felt like that song was one of the weakiest tracks on Dream Factory sigh

Love this track. I hope he revisits this sound or brings back this song or something like it, I think it really works well for him.

He should pull this one out to play live, like he did "All Day, All Night".

This song is way too underrated, it is a beautiful love song that deals with the pain of parting from a loved one before a long journey,
