'Chocolate Box', the V-day Song

When I first heard this song I thought of Valentines day; because of the chocolates and sex.

Anyway, given that, I thought that it would be fun to have a thread about this song.

Do you have a chocolate box that you are planning to give away this Valentines Day? Will your chocolates be wrapped or unwrapped?
Are you expecting a special box this valentines day? Do you prefer to unwrap them yourself or have them unwrapped for you?

About the song itself; there are things I don't understand; like the whole thing about having bank. Unlike Brad Pitt, Prince isn't known to date women who are celebrities in there own right. The only one I know of who had Bank when he met them was Kim Bassinger. Was he talking about something else besides money?

The video is interesting. Why do the couple do this Sumi wrestler belly bump in the end. That girls a bit slim for that crazy crap.

Anyway, I do not care what way you go with this song, just do your best to somehow talk about what "chocolate box' means to you. wink

Chocolate Box

So, what's the deal, why you frontin' keep it real
Do you wanna get funky with me?
If you think I got something that you want,
Sugar nothin' here comes for free

I been around this way
Got lost and found
Lemme see if you remember my name
You can try to get it but I can't let you hit it
Cuz you never gon' be the same

I got a box a chocolates
That'll rock the socks of any
Girl that wanna come my way
And I ain't got no time to waste
If she ain't makin' bank and scared of
What a brutha got to say

She want the b-o-x-a-chocolate everyday

So what's the deal are you sportin' some wheels
Or are you ridin' in a limousine?
This ain't prom night and I don't wanna
Fight so you betta get your dirty clean
I hear your words goin' up and down your
Skirt your gonna get a chance to prove it
You best believe if you wanna get wit me
It takes a real woman to do it

[Chorus (q-tip)]

So what's the deal are you gay or poppin' pills?
Why you still wanna take my hand?
This discotec is 'bout to make me a wreck
My feet are singin' louder than the band
I see you got the feelin'
Flashin' lights up on the ceiling
Say you gotta get your weekend now
What difference does it make?
You know you can't make chocolate cake
If ain't nobody ever showed you how

[Chorus x2]
She want the b-o-x-a-chocolate everyday

just watched the video again, lol Prince is great!

The Valentines Day tie in makes sense as the only stark color is a Red cape. I like chocolates -- dark chocolate is my favorite, its bittersweet.

Seems like the girl in the video is trying to get away from Q-Tip but he keeps pursuing her. She takes a couple "leaps" of faith and then confronts him at the end. Prince is the impetus for all of that as he glides through the airwaves in the background.

The bank part could be a reference to keepin it zipped under the belt...

Happy Valentines Day heart

falloff I haven't heard nor thought about that song in quite a while so I looked up the video to refresh my memory. I got as far as...

I got a box a chocolates
That'll rock the socks of any
Girl that wanna come my way

and realized it'd just be best if I don't discuss the chocolate nor the box of which it comes from, that hearing this song brings to my mind!

Happy Valentine's Day Orgers! heart
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Isn't it rock the socks off? Rock the socks of sounds stupid.

I don't know why I care. Prince's Chocolate Box really blows.

I especially hate the part in the middle where it turns into "Push It" by Salt n Pepa.

The lyrics I checked said "rock the sock" but, fortunately, whether it is rocking or knocking it doesn't change the meaning of the line. I hate it when I don't understand a song because I am not hearing the lyrics right.

After I posted this my little org lyrics said" much miss-heard lyrics" let's look for the purple banana 'til they put us in the truck". There is a big difference between bandana and banana.

This is one of those songs where the lyrics are all over the place. I say that because the chorus can rock the sox off any girl, and then talks directly about words flirting up and down her skirt....She's gonna get a chance to prove it.

Which one is it Prince? All girls, or miss flirty skirt, tell me now so I know what to wear. cool

What I understand from "Chocolate Box," is the variety of things that Prince and his partner can do. Q-Tip says, "So many variations from the "Concience," of fun.

Just for the hell of it I actually clicked on. Is he really planning something for March 7th in California or was that last year??? Anyway it's a yearly fee.

The good thing about that is that if people do not renew he can ask himself or his web designers why.

For the record; I did not buy a Lotusflow3r membership. HAD I read on the org that the membership was well worth the 77 $$$$ then I would have. Had I heard that is was just worth the 77 I might have. If that website was great word about how fantastic it was would have been all over this fan site and he would have a ton of subcribers.

Since it is yearly there is always next year. He just needs to make something happen there for maybe 3 or 4 months to get back his old subscribers and get a whole lot of new ones aswell.

When I checked out the lyrics it said that it WAS his first release. Where was that? I have heard any songs from this album on any radio station. Does it play on alternative radio?

another line that I am not getting the point of is; "So what's the deal are you gay or poppin' pills? Why do you still want to take my hand?"

Is this suppose to be a pick-up line? 'Cause if it is, it's not a very good one.

The song sounds like he is not sure if this woman is deserving of his Godiva's yet the video shows a man chasing a woman. Who is pursueing who in this song? What the hell is going on here, really? Is he talking about a date for the night or looking for a more serious relationship?

Does anyone else besides me and Tame find this song "all over the place " in meaning? If you really get this song please fill me in. shrug

as I sit here listening to the Come CD , that was preceeded by When Doves Cry i cannot believe that Prince, a true poet, wrote such a piece of trite / lite shit as Choc'box!.If the music had a great groove and whole lotta punch then he may have been forgiven but this lacks in ebery department. Where has the mans pride gone?. sad
